I had a bad cold, but no other known health problems. I was just a kid, about 8 years old. I was standing in the bathroom before the mirror and my mom was applying Vicks Vaporub to my chest. There was a very loud, almost electric-sounding buzzing sound that grew progressively louder. In the next moment, I was flying at a rapid rate through a tunnel, accompanied by pinpoints of very bright light, which I immediately recognized as angels... lots of angels. Then, I awoke to my mom slapping my face, shaking me, and screaming for my dad. In the first instant, I came to awareness, I remember being VERY angry that I was back here. I wanted to go on. It was so beautiful, peaceful, and the purest joy I have ever known. There has never been anything on earth to compare with the feeling. I was told that I had gone into a convulsion and my heart stopped. I was probably gone for about two to three minutes.

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? Yes I was flying through a tunnel horizontally, at a very high rate of speed.
Did you see any beings in your experience? I actually saw them
Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? Yes There were pinpoints of very bright lights accompanying me; going at the same rate of speed as I was, yet kind of floating around me. I called out in my mind, 'Angels!' I recognized them as angels and was very excited.

Did you see deceased or religious spirits? I actually saw them Concerning our Earthly lives other than Religion:
During your experience, did you gain special knowledge or information about your purpose? Uncertain I knew I was flying towards something beautiful and it felt like home. I was supremely happy for the first time ever in my consciousness.
Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? Yes I have had many paranormal experiences and have psychic abilities that no other member of my family has. I don't 'fit in' with any of my family and have been alienated. After the NDE:

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes I am very intuitive and have had psychic experiences throughout my life, including precognitive dreams, remote viewing, ESP, knowing things ahead of time on almost a daily basis, and the ability to heal animals and people from a distance (energy healing).
Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? It was ALL significant to me, as I have an extremely compassionate and loving nature now. I am not similar to any other member of my family as far as life experiences, emotions, ability to sense and feel what others are thinking or feeling, and creative ability.
Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes I think it was maybe 4 or 5 years before I told my mom. I have told many people since.
Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? No
What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real I was more alive during that experience, and more fully open to feeling and seeing and sensing, than at any other time before or since. It is the most impactful and real experience of my life; as if this life is not 'real', but that experience was the true nature of my being.
What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real
At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience? Yes Two years ago I was working in my studio and heard that electric, buzzing sound that precipitated the NDE of my youth. It started to grow louder, but then stopped. There were no health conditions or illnesses at the time; I was perfectly healthy and relaxed.
Is there anything else that you would like to add about your experience? Yes. I have spent my whole life since with a distinct sense of purpose and love. I've had a knowing that I am here for a reason, though it is not clear exactly what that purpose is, other than to do my best to bring love and understanding to others and to perform healing on all levels. I especially love animals and have had many experiences with wildlife and other animals that are of an unusual nature.
I had a severe cold and my mom was 'greasing me up' with Vicks Vaporub. I began to hear a buzzing sound that grew louder and louder. The next thing I knew, I was going rapidly through a tunnel toward a light. I saw small, bright orbs of light accompanying me and I said to myself, 'Angels!' Before I could reach the light, I returned to my body and came to. My mom was slapping me, crying, and screaming. I was very angry to find myself back in my body. I wanted to go on... it was so peaceful and joyful.
Did you feel separated from your body? Yes I clearly left my body and existed outside it
At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? While going through the tunnel.
Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. I believe I had spiritual vision to see angels, or to recognize them as angels.
Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. I only heard a rushing sound while traveling at a high rate of speed through the tunnel.
Did you pass into or through a tunnel? Yes A tunnel of light.
Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? Yes Angels were accompanying me. They appeared as points of light, but I immediately recognized them as angels. There was no doubt. They were 'drifting' all around me as I traveled.
Did you see an unearthly light? Yes The tunnel was light and I was being drawn towards a greater light.
What emotions did you feel during the experience? Extreme joy, peace, acceptance and love.
Have your religious practices changed since your experience? Yes There is no doubt in my mind that there is an afterlife and we must make the most of this life we're given. Specifically, we should do the most good we can with any gifts we have been given.
Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes There is no doubt in my mind that there is an afterlife and we must make the most of this life we're given. Specifically, we should do the most good we can with any gifts we have been given.
During your experience, did you gain special knowledge or information about your purpose? Yes I felt as if I was going home.
Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? Uncertain I believe I have such a strong sense of purpose because of this. Being only a child, I didn't have any relationships other than my sisters and parents. It did not alter anything with them. After the NDE:
Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes I have psychic gifts and have chronicled an inordinate amount of very unusual events in my life, including lucid dreaming, ESP, telepathy, remote viewing, astral travel and clairsentience.
Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? Yes. I have no fear of death. I have a tremendous sense of purpose in my life and am constantly seeking the light and ways to put some good into the world.
Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes I think it was about a year before I told my mom. I don't remember her having any reaction.
What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real Immediately after this happened, my mom put me to bed and I remember being awestruck. I knew I'd died, and felt somehow changed, though I was just a child and couldn't put it into words.
What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real That experience was more real and vivid than any experience in my life. It gave me a sense of purpose and a tremendous desire to do good works with my life and all the gifts I've been given.
