Experience Description

I found myself coming up from behind and above my neighbor as she was walking down the hospital hallway. I noticed that she was carrying a McDonald's bag in her right hand. I can't say I followed her very long, and did not know where she was going. It really didn't feel unusual at the time, it just was. Noticed her clothes (jeans, shirt, etc.), and the cleanliness of the hospital. Don't recall any voices or noises.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes Illness 'Life threatening event, but not clinical death' Severe Pneumonia required a ventilator and an induced coma. Little oxygen was getting to the brain.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Mixed

The experience included: Out of body experience

Did you feel separated from your body? Uncertain I lost awareness of my body

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? Normal consciousness and alertness Once I had gotten behind her.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? Once I had gotten behind her.

Were your thoughts speeded up? Incredibly fast

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning

Were your senses more vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? Yes I had a second experience during my comma, but it was not during the out of body sensation.

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? A light clearly of mystical or other-worldly origin

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Relief or calmness

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes Did not share the experience for a couple of weeks after leaving the hospital (approximately three to four weeks after experience).

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? Uncertain Heard of it, but never really gave it much thought.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real I knew it happened, but couldn't really make sense of it.
