Experience Description

It was a Tuesday. I'd finished work, then had my tea, and had a relaxing evening, then went to bed. I'd had no alcohol or anything else. The time was 11pm and I was asleep by 11.05pm according to my wife.

In my sleep I saw a brilliant, long white light like a path. At the far end of the path was my Mum and my Auntie, who had both passed in my teens. My Mum was beckoning with her arm for me to go to her. I just there stood looking. The next thing I knew, I was being chased by small figures with large heads filled with sharp pin-teeth. Everywhere I looked was black. The trees were burnt black too.

I woke up and sat up in bed. I was sweating and panting. The Doctor, who was sitting at the end of the bed, said "hiya" to me. I'm not sure if him sitting on the bed disturbed me or not? The bedsheets were torn and wet. My wife had phoned the doctor, as I have epilepsy. It's controlled and I hadn't had a seizure for years. The Doctor said that it was a virus.

I stayed off work for a few days, told my wife that I was going to see my uncle. My uncle had raised me and my brother when our parents had passed away. My wife reminded me to not mention what happened, as he was getting on in years and I didn't want to upset him. We sat talking. He said that he had a strange dream the other night. He told me that in his dream, he just stood there and everywhere around him was black. He said that in front of him were all of our family who had passed away; my Mum, Dad, Aunties etc. They were beckoning him to come with them. Then from his right side, me and my brother stood there shouting at him. He looked our way and walked away with us. He then woke up. I asked him when this happened. Tuesday night at 11.05pm literally the same time as I had my dream.

One minute I was standing looking at my Mum and the white light as if everything stood still, then I was being chased through the forest.

I had gone from seeing my Mum and Aunty to being chased through the dark forest by creatures.

Although I was a Christian at the time, I wasn't really interested in Christianity.

Since the experience, I am a strong believer in the afterlife.

I did think about the afterlife, and as much as what I was seeing was good, there was also bad.

I became a lot more religious.

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Large changes in my life
After my experience, I went to a Spiritualist meeting and the lady picked me out and described my Dad and my Uncle, without speaking to me, and said these are who are guardian angels. I got Covid which caused a clot on my lung. I was on medication at home, really fearful about the future. One night I was half asleep and I just happened to open my eyes and at the bottom of the bed, I saw a figure, both arms outstretched, then disappeared. The following night, I was not sleeping too well; suddenly, I heard, 'It's not your time yet.' I asked my wife if she had heard or seen anything, but she hadn't.

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? No

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? No

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience
It has stayed with me because of the impact of the experience, whereas no other events have come close.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes
I can recall dreams in vivid detail. I had a dream about a fellow worker who had cancer and that she had passed away. I told my wife the following morning, who was obviously shocked. I went into work and was taken aside to be told my fellow worker had sadly passed away.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? After seeing my Mum and Aunty, I know that when the time comes I will be seeing them again, and even though there was an uneasy sequence in my experience, seeing my Mum was everything.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes
A few weeks later, I shared it with close family and friends. Quite a few felt uneasy and some scoffed at it, but I had my wife to tell them what she had seen. Also a few visited Spiritualist meetings.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? Yes
I had seen programs on TV, but no, what I was aware of about NDE didn't affect my experience in any way.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real
From the way I had been during the experience, crying, panting, sweating, tearing bedsheets, all this I was doing unknowingly.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real
After all these years, I can still recall the experience. It definitely left an everlasting effect on me.
