Experience Description

My boyfriend and I were having an argument. As I ran from him, he grabbed me from behind and put me in a headlock. I told him I couldn't breathe. Then I passed out. I don't know how long he held me before he realized what had happened to me. He let go and I tumbled to the ground without catching myself. My head smacked the hard kitchen floor and was dazed.

When I hit the ground, I left my body three times. I was face to face with myself and my past self. I was in awe because I had been looking at that face for so long. It was kind of like going in and out of a TV screen or a popcorn ceiling. The one time I was out of my body, I had peripheral vision and I was "me." I wasn't scared. I could hear a rumble. I knew that I was in a gray tunnel, although I wasn't looking up or down. The tunnel was like a tornado almost, with this light on the outside of it. I can best describe like when lightning strikes over clouds. I wasn't scared. When I went back to my body after hitting the ground, I was discombobulated, scared, and terrified.

I had a concussion. When I hit the ground, I left my body three times. I was face to face with myself, my past self, and I was in awe because I had been looking at that face for so long. It was kind of like going in and out of a TV screen or a popcorn ceiling. The one time I was out of my body, I had peripheral vision, so with those eyeballs, I was me. I wasn't scared. I could hear a rumble and I was in a tunnel, although I wasn't looking up or down. It was gray and it was like a tornado almost, with this light on the outside of it, kind of like when lightning strikes over clouds. I wasn't scared, but when I went back to my body after hitting the ground, I was just discombobulated, scared, and terrified. I had a concussion.

Were your senses more vivid than usual? More vivid than usual

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience It really didn't feel like I was any different, except I was looking at myself, and I was in a tunnel, and there was all this noise. But I was calm; I wasn't scared, and I was me, like I am now, looking out my eyeballs.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience Now that was strange because I didn't really hear the rumble, but it was a big rumble. It was in my head, but it was audible; it was in my head.

Did you seem to be aware of things going on elsewhere? No

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? Yes
When I was falling to the ground, I was parallel to my body, but I didn't have vision. I was in a great, tornado-like tunnel made of thick clouds. Some spots were darker, letting more light in, and some were not. The light was big outside the tunnel, like watching clouds with bright lightning lighting up the outside. It was about 2.5 to 3 feet surrounding me, or should I say us, me and...

God, Spiritual and Religion:

What was your religion prior to your experience? Christian - Other Christian

Have your religious practices changed? No

What is your religion now? Other or several faiths
Well, normally my personality type doesn't really believe in things. I am more scientific. But because of all my experiences I've had, even as a child, it's hard to say. I believe in Jesus and reincarnation, I think. But I also believe that when I pray, I pray to God and to Jesus. So I'm not really Christian, but I do believe in God.

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience
It was a very strange experience, but it was really interesting. Me being a fearful person but also someone who struggles with dying and death, and having had a lot of close relationships that have passed, I don't know, it made me feel comfort.

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? No

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? No

Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)? No

During your experience, did you gain information about premortal existence? Uncertain
I was learning about reincarnation, but I found that out after my experience, I guess.

During your experience, did you gain information about the meaning of life? No

During your experience, did you gain information about an afterlife? Yes
Well, when I was outside my body, I was myself just as much as when I was in it. I felt like myself when looking out, not like when I look in the mirror. It was not like looking in a mirror; I had seen that face for 36 years.

Did you gain information about how to live our lives? Uncertain
Well, it didn't alleviate much fear about life not ending at the time, I guess.

During your experience, did you gain information about life's difficulties, challenges and hardships? No

During your experience, did you gain information about love? No

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Large changes in my life
Well, there have been big changes. I pretty much, with the concussion, have changed a lot. I can't say that yes, it's been hard, but that experience does help me at least deal with what happened because I could never have experienced it without it, even though it was tragic.

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? Yes
I'm no longer in a relationship, but it's still hard as I do have some codependency issues. I loved him, but he hurt me.

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? No

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience
I had a severe concussion when I went back into my body. I was very dizzy and scared, but one part of me in my body was calm, and like I didn't feel any kind of badness. But I had a severe concussion afterward, so a lot of stuff is hazy as it really had an effect on my memory.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Uncertain
I do have to say, I no longer have deja vu or sleep paralysis or feelings of excitement because of my brain injury, I believe.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? I've always been afraid of the future, afraid, and I suppose this was maybe a way of God or whatever it is just saying, 'Hey, here, have a little piece of this; don't be afraid.'

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes
Sometimes I feel like I should share it so that maybe I could comfort them, to know that I really went somewhere.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? No

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real
I thought it was real at the time, when I went into my body. I remember it, and I can still remember it as if it were embedded in my brain or something like that.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was probably real
I sometimes question if the memory fades due to my memory issues, but I still remember how it really was then.

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience? No

Did the questions asked and information that you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience? Yes
I believe so.

Anything else to add? no
