Experience Description

On August 2, 2023, I was working in my garden. I used an extension cord, that I knew had a weak spot where the insulation wasn’t perfect. The ground was still damp from watering the previous day. Despite feeling a warning deep inside, I didn’t unplug it. Something compelled me to take off my gloves and rubber boots. I began to wrap the cable around my arm, repeating to myself to be careful with the damaged area. That’s when I accidentally grabbed the exposed wires.

I don’t remember exactly how I was thrown across the garden, but suddenly I was on my back and lying between the rows of pepper plants. The cable was still in my hand. My fingers were locked around it because I couldn’t let go. My hand was tightening involuntarily against my chest, and it felt as if the cable was magnetically drawn to my body. Later, I thought it might have had something to do with the gold medallion I was wearing.

At first, I felt pure terror. I understood exactly what was happening and that there was no escape. My thoughts flew to my children. I was surrounded by swirling colors and countless spirals merging into a glowing funnel of light. I remember screaming for someone to hear me, but then I gave up. A strange calm came over me as the panic vanished. I was at peace. And then, suddenly, it was as if someone pulled the cable from my hand and I was free.

Suddenly, it seemed as if someone pulled the cable from my hand. I was free and stood up. The cable was no longer clinging to me; it lay gently placed on top of a pepper plant, as if someone had carefully set it there. I went and unplugged the cable.

Then I called an ambulance. My heart was racing, but I felt a deep calm. My fingers were badly burned and sliced open. They were blackened to the bone on the inside. But, I was alive. And something in me had changed.
