Experience Description

It’s been a long time so I don’t remember the specific details leading up to the experience, but I do know I was in the bathroom adjacent to my mother’s room. I was walking in and out of nowhere; I just remember saying, “I don’t feel good,” and collapsing. At the time, I think I had no medical issues; or it was very shortly after I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.

What I experienced, made me believe in an afterlife for a time. I remember this more vividly than any other memory I’ve ever had.

I was in a black void. To my left was a faint red light. To my right was a white light and I could hear faint orchestral music. I remember being confused but not scared. I did not move from where I was. But, out of nowhere, I heard a booming voice in my head that said, “It’s not your time.”

I woke up to my mother on the phone, freaking out and sobbing. She was saying that she couldn’t find a pulse.

I don’t remember feeling any sort of way other than, “Well, that was weird.”

To the right of where I was in the void was an unearthly bright, white light

It was just a black void with red to my left and white light to my right with very faint orchestral music.

I don’t know if my interest in spirituality, the after life, etc. would’ve been any different even if this experience didn’t happen.

Like a day. Most people I know write it off as me hallucinating after fainting. My mom at the beginning, right after I woke up, believed me and thought I’d seen the afterlife. But now she thinks I probably just fainted and hallucinated something.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real
It was just too vivid for it to not be real.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was probably not real
I think talking to my therapist about it and people who are atheist/don’t believe in the afterlife have mostly convinced me that it’s a false memory/just a hallucination and I didn’t actually experience anything.
