Experience Description

When my experience began, I was sitting cross-legged and floating above the clouds. My arms were crossed in front of me, with my elbows raised horizontally to my chest. When I looked down at my body, it was not there. Although I could feel my body, I could not see it. I seemed to be in a rhythmic motion, like a heartbeat. It was as if I was on a conveyor belt moving forward. I was headed towards what looked like a horizon line in the clouds, similar to the horizon you would see at the ocean. On the other side of the clouds, I could see the top of a Ferris wheel. Instead of having lights, it sparkled like diamonds. Everything around me was lit with a white light as if it were daytime.

Then I woke up on the floor. My initial thought was, "No, I want to go back." It had seemed like the most comfortable, peaceful sleep I had ever had in my entire life. I asked my boyfriend how long I had been out, and he said about ten minutes.

God, Spiritual and Religion:

What was your religion prior to your experience? Unaffiliated - Agnostic

Have your religious practices changed? Uncertain
I was always skeptical of the things I learned in church. I thought it was a little bit over the top, and I was not inclined to believe what I was taught. I always knew there was something more. I believe that God is a feeling, something you cannot specifically see with your eyes, but you can feel and know.

What is your religion now? Unaffiliated - Agnostic
Raised Christian. I am a funeral director and have studied all religions. I believe in a higher power, also known as the source.

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience
I didn't have any strong beliefs as to what happened afterward. I never really believed in a heaven or house so to speak, but what I was experiencing seemed to be lifting me up above the clouds into the heavens. This diamond-sparkling Ferris wheel was consistent with something I had read in the Bible at one time or another.

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes
I no longer fear death. I realized that the death transition was a beautiful experience.

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? No

Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)? No

During your experience, did you gain information about premortal existence? Yes
I was aware that I had existed before, because I looked down to see my body and there was none.

During your experience, did you gain information about universal connection or oneness? No

During your experience, did you gain information about the existence of God? No

During your experience, did you gain information about life's difficulties, challenges and hardships? No

During your experience, did you gain information about love? No

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? No

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience
It seemed to me that I recalled every single little detail that was happening at the time of my experience.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Uncertain
I definitely feel some type of intuition about many things. Sometimes I feel as though I can read people's thoughts. When I would go into a public place, sometimes I could feel the emotions that were coming from everybody, and I had to get out immediately.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? I loved that I was floating above the clouds, and I really wanted to see what was on the other side near the Ferris wheel.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes
About ten years after the experience, I started sharing it with others. They just look at me kind of shocked and are speechless. I think it is probably because of the choking part.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? Uncertain
I had never really heard of other near-death experiences. There are many TV shows about them now that I watch, but to my knowledge, they were not available at the time.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real
The feeling of peacefulness and comfort was so great when I woke up that I wanted to go back immediately. It definitely felt very real to me.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was probably real
After hearing others' near death experiences, I realize that it was an NDE and not just a dream.

Everything that I can possibly remember and feel from that time I have explained.
