Experience Description In 1967, I was in basic training at Fort Dix in NJ. I felt a little ill prior to being allowed to go home for the Christmas holiday. While at home in Western NY, I got worse daily. On Christmas morning, my mother was convinced to take me to the Veteran's hospital in Buffalo. I was guaranteed a private room. I found out later that my temperature was over 105F. I was packed in ice to attempt to bring it down. I was not aware of time at all. What I remember vividly to this day was that I was out of my body, up in the corner of the room that was opposite the bed which my body was in. I recall watching the doctors. I saw my parents standing inside the door looking at me. I watched the doctor telling my parents that they did not expect me to survive the night. I felt completely at ease and could feel the presence of others beside me without seeing them. I know that I had left the scene from there, but can't recall anything which took place or how long it took for me to return to my body. I know that I was in that bed for 5 or 6 days, which I was told later. Later, I told my mother and the doctors what was said by the doctors at the bedside. She and the doctors dismissed it as I must have heard it while in the medically induced coma. I know what I experienced was much less than others while out of body. I don't know why I can't recall any other aspects of my experience. This is the first time I have told of my experience to anyone. Thank you for giving me the opportunity... Ron.
