Experience Description

This is not my experience, it was my son's. He is not here to tell the story but after many years of thinking about his experience, I feel the need to share.

In 2015, my son suffered a heroin overdose in Chicago. I was informed by the doctors that his heart was only working at 10%, his lungs were collapsing, and he was in a coma for 10 days. I was there every day. On the tenth day, the doctors informed me that they would start to "turn off" the ventilators keeping him alive to see if his body would react and start to breathe.

After a few trials, my son came back to life. Little by little he started to make noises and to breathe.

As soon as he woke up, he looked at me and told me with extreme urgency: "Mom, mom, you are not going to believe what I saw!"

My son did not wake up disoriented, did not ask normal questions about what he was doing at a hospital or anything else, he just wanted to tell me what he saw.

He described being with a little girl. He described her as Dora the Explorer. She was Hispanic, about five years old, brown hair and eyes. She told him that it was not his time to go there. He needed to come back to be with his siblings and mentioned the names of his three siblings.

Back at the hospital, he woke up, told me this, and I imagined the little girl was probably a deceased great grandma. I really hoped that after this experience he would stop using and abusing heroin. I was wrong. A few years passed, this was all forgotten.

My son came to visit with a new girlfriend. We were in the living room and I brought out a photo album to show the new girlfriend the pictures of our family. Suddenly my son stopped talking after opening a page. He looked at me and I got it.

Without ever talking about it, I asked: "Is that the little girl of your experience?" He told me, "Yes. Who is she, mom?"

I said, "That's me."

He was looking at a picture of me graduating from kindergarten in Colombia, and I did look like Dora the Explorer. We were speechless. It was me. I was trying to reach him. Because he would not recognize me as a woman, I appeared to him as a little one.

I was trying to save him in all the realms I could.

Ultimately, he did die of a heroin overdose in 2020.

After years of thinking about this, I concluded: Up there in Heaven, there is no time. Time is only here for us alive people on earth.

Up there I can be 5 or 50, maybe this is a simulation and I am already there with him.
