Experience Description

I was at a stop light on my motorcycle. (I was the next vehicle to go through the intersection, and the light was red.) I was rear-ended by a truck at a high rate of speed.

Background Information:

Gender: Male

Date of NDE: 02/00/1992

NDE Elements:

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes
A motorcycle accident.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

Did you feel separated from your body? I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? When I found myself surrounded by love/God.
I felt love, acceptance, and knowledge beyond anything I'd ever imagined. (Unconditional love and absolute complete knowledge.)

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness? More consciousness and alertness than normal

Were your thoughts speeded up? Incredibly fast

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning
The entire experience was in hyper speed, but I was able to relive and feel each and every moment in full. At the same time, I felt the emotions I had at the time, the emotions of others I'd affected, and the emotions after reliving those moments honestly in front of the entity of light I stood with (God).

Were your senses more vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience I saw things (life review) incredibly fast but felt every moment and emotion in full.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience I don't recall hearing anything; it was telepathic.

God, Spiritual and Religion:

What was your religion prior to your experience? Unaffiliated - Agnostic
I'd attended a Christian church a few times but was not a believer.

Have your religious practices changed? Yes
I treat people differently now, knowing that's our purpose: to love, which I believe is spiritual.

What is your religion now? Do not know
I'm not religious, but after experiencing my NDE I have no doubt that a higher power exists big enough to be all gods (across all religions).

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was entirely not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience
I was agnostic and I experienced something far beyond anything I had ever imagined. I left the experience labeling it God!

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes
I went from not believing to believing. That was just the first change in an 18-minute time span. I also had very hateful feelings toward a certain race of people due to trauma I encountered growing up (I considered myself a racist before my experience). That hatred was completely removed during that 18-minute period.

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? I encountered a definite being, or a voice clearly of mystical or unearthly origin
The light I encountered was clearly some sort of entity that I can only label as God!

Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)? No

During your experience, did you gain information about premortal existence? No

During your experience, did you gain information about universal connection or oneness? No

During your experience, did you gain information about the existence of God? Yes
I was with a god, whom I had no belief in, and was shown without doubt that this God is big enough to be all gods!

Concerning our Earthly lives other than Religion:

During your experience, did you gain special knowledge or information about your purpose? No

During your experience, did you gain information about the meaning of life? Yes
I was shown that our entire purpose is to love and to be kind to others!

During your experience, did you gain information about an afterlife? Uncertain
I left my experience knowing there is something amazing on the other side, although I wasn't shown anything regarding the reality of the afterlife.

Did you gain information about how to live our lives? No

During your experience, did you gain information about life's difficulties, challenges and hardships? No

During your experience, did you gain information about love? Yes
I was shown, through my actions, how my behavior affected others. The negative felt terrible; the loving, caring actions felt amazing. In my review, a moment of simply holding the door for someone felt as though I'd done everything I was supposed to do!

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Large changes in my life
After my life review, I was incredibly thoughtful of others (before I was selfish and uncaring). I understood, through my actions, how my behavior can affect others, and now I only want to affect others positively.

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? Yes
I treat people differently now.

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Yes
No earthly words could ever fully express what I saw and felt.

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience
My experience is remembered precisely 35 years later; the only thing lacking is the emotions felt at the time.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Uncertain
I feel empathy beyond all others, but I am unsure if it was a result of my NDE. I didn't feel this way before my experience, though.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? Holding the door for someone felt as though that was my entire purpose (kindness/love). Another moment that really stood out was seemingly silly. We were leaving a movie theater. We'd almost gotten to the lobby doors and I thought to myself, 'I shouldn't just leave my garbage under the seat I was sitting in,' and I turned around, walked back up into the theater, grabbed my trash (popcorn bucket and soda cup), and walked down and tossed it into the trash. And again I felt as though I'd done everything I was supposed to do. (Before, I was neither kind nor loving.)

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes
One month later, I shared my experience with my mother, not understanding fully what I'd witnessed. She shared a book with me, 'Life after Life' by Raymond Moody, and that helped me understand what I'd gone through. (I was not aware of NDEs before then.)

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? No

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real
The reality was true due to the depth of the experience. What I experienced could never be a fluke.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real
There's no way to ever not believe in the reality of this experience. It was so far beyond what we see and feel daily! The depth and honesty of my experience are beyond everything.

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience? No

Did the questions asked and information that you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience? Yes
