Experience Description

I was with my National Guard Unit on a training exercise in New Mexico. We were leaving for Guatemala in a few days. While in the desert I had a widow-maker heart attack. 100 percent blockage to my left anterior descending artery. I was placed in a vehicle and transported to an ambulance base on McGregor Air Force Base. I was taken to El Paso Texas for treatment at the military hospital Military Hospital on Fort Bliss. They turned the ambulance away because there was no doctor on duty that could help me. The ambulance then took me to University Hospital where a doctor and his team were waiting for me.

During my ride to the hospital, I stared out the back of the ambulance awaiting death. I knew how long the drive was, and that I didn't have that much time. I begged for a phone to call my wife, but no one gave me one.

I remember seeing the sun through the rear door of the ambulance. Then my eyes closed and I was in a different place. A new plane of existence. It was void of color and light. There was nothing. I simply existed. I felt a peace that cannot be put into words. I felt love. These emotions coursed through me. As I looked around, I did not have a body. I looked down for legs, but there were none. I realized then that I was dead. I had no thoughts of life here; not my wife, children, or my career. Nothing. There were no thoughts of my existence outside of where I was at that moment.

I initially questioned where I was, but I realized that I had gained new information. It was as though I had downloaded a manual. I just understood. I knew why I was there, but that fact didn't bother me. Then the face of my grandmother came from the nothingness. She smiled and said "You're going to be just fine." She put out her hand as if to push me away and I sat up on a table in an emergency room.

My senses were overwhelmed by the chaos there. People spoke to me. I begged for a phone. I was given one. Someone dialed my wife's number. She answered. I told her that I had a heart attack, that I was okay, and that I loved her. I told her that I had closed my eyes. The phone was taken away and I died again. I was brought back again and again. All told I died six times that day.

I left the hospital with ten percent heart function. Within two weeks I had fifty percent. The doctors could not explain why or how that happened after the prolonged damage my heart took that day.

God, Spiritual and Religion:

What was your religion prior to your experience? Christian - Other Christian
I identify as a Christian, but I did not and still do not attend a church or religious services of any kind.

Have your religious practices changed? No

What is your religion now? Christian - Other Christian
I would describe myself as spiritual, but not religious. I know that there is life after death. I know that a higher power exists. I know that the Bible is not fact.

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was entirely not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience
At the time I only knew what I had learned from all of the people in my life (parents, teachers, etc...). I had never really thought about any of these things to that extent during my life leading to my event.

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes
I believe that people need all the help that other people can give them. I have always felt that way, but I feel stronger about it now.

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? No

Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)? No

During your experience, did you gain information about premortal existence? No

During your experience, did you gain information about the existence of God? Yes
God exists.

Concerning our Earthly lives other than Religion:

During your experience, did you gain special knowledge or information about your purpose? Yes
To me it was like I downloaded a user's manual. The knowledge was just there.

During your experience, did you gain information about the meaning of life? Yes
Another difficult topic for this format, but in short... Man is made to exist. Man is no different than lions or bears. These animals exist. That is their purpose. They exist each day. They have offspring that they care for. Animals have emotions. Humans have emotions. We care, we love, we hurt, we find happiness. Anything past simple existence is a man-made construct. Existence is our purpose; all other reasoning is extra. If you love, that's great. If that love turns to hate? If you are happy? That's great! Many live with sadness and depression. All of these emotions can be good or bad, but in the end anything beyond simply existing is an invention of man no different than a toaster.

During your experience, did you gain information about an afterlife? Yes
There is existence after earthly life. The place that I found myself after death was for everyone (Elvis, Hitler, everyone). Heaven and Hell are constructs of man. An invention for man by man. Let's call where I was the "realm" to simplify things for now. The realm is where everyone goes. It is like an infinite cubicle. People there can come to your cubicle to see you. You can go to theirs to see them. Your afterlife will be what you have made of it. Your thoughts. Thoughts that the universe (God) will give you in that realm. I felt peace, love, tranquility. Others feel the weight of the guilt of what they caused in life. That is a snippet of what knowledge I gained while I was there. Specific questions are easier for me to deal with because it is difficult for me to discuss this knowledge in an open-ended format due to the breadth of the subject matter.

Did you gain information about how to live our lives? Yes
I gained a lot of knowledge. Too much to go into here. I have answered several of the questions about meaning of life, love, etc., but to explain what I gained in a questionnaire is simply too much.

During your experience, did you gain information about life's difficulties, challenges and hardships? Yes
I think I explained the answer to this question in my previous answer. We were made by the universe to exist. Lions, bears, seals all exist. We wanted to drive cars, and live in big houses with televisions and sprinkler systems in our gardens. Man has created a world in which money is God. Animals don't need money. We didn't start out needing money. Someone invented a toaster. Everyone needed a toaster to make toast, and the rest is history. Now if you don't have the money for a toaster or any other comfort that man has made, you will suffer with challenges and life's hardships, i.e., not having a car, air conditioning, a toaster, etc.

During your experience, did you gain information about love? Yes
Again, love is a man-made construct like time.

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Moderate changes in my life
I believe I understand more now than before. I always felt there was a God. I was raised in rural Arkansas. Everybody is raised to believe in God and the Bible. I was always a decent person. I just never really thought about all of the deeper meaning stuff until my event.

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? No

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Yes
It is very difficult to describe to someone that has not had the same experience.

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience
I remember exactly what happened to me when I died. I pretty much remember the things leading up to that moment, but I would say I had more clarity after death.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes
I am not a psychic. I don't tell the future and look into crystal balls. I do have feelings that often come to pass. I just feel more in tune with the universe.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? It is hard for me to deal with the fact that while I was there I had no thoughts of my wife and children. I adore my wife. She was the last thought I had before my event, and the first thought when I came back. It is astonishing that I did not think of her in that realm.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes
I immediately shared with people. Some people were receptive. Some were not. I never saw anyone change because of what I said.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? Yes
I had seen a few people on television talk about an experience they had. I never paid much attention, but I did think those people were telling big stories for some TV time.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real
I knew it happened.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real
I still know it happened.

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience? No

Did the questions asked and information that you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience? Yes
It is a great questionnaire. I answered honestly with no fluff.

Anything else to add? I think I have covered quite a bit.
