Experience Description

I was contemplating suicide due to extremely stressful life events that had been ongoing for more than a decade. I had taken up meditation to try to deal with the mental and physical issues caused by the stress. During a meditation session, I stopped breathing and experienced the NDE.

I traveled through a corridor of different objects. I saw five white pillars that I passed through. I saw an emblem of a bright green triangle with brilliant, round, red sparkling jewels on each corner, and three white feathers hanging below. It glowed and radiated an essence.

As I moved past it, I entered a large area where I could see a bright light in the distance. In front of me were many, many people heading away from me, all going toward the bright light. I could see only their outlines. They were moving slowly, and the light became bigger as I moved forward toward it. The feeling of love was overwhelming. It surrounded me and permeated me.

Then a being appeared at my side. I did not see any facial features. The figure was pure white and radiated light. I sensed the figure was more male than female. In my mind, he spoke to me, as he had no face, and said I could look, but I could not stay, which I wanted to do. It was said with the most amazing love.

In a split second, I was back in my body and took a very deep breath after not breathing, like I had been surfacing from being underwater. The whole experience, from when I started meditating, lasted about three minutes, though it seemed much longer.

I had always had some psychic abilities before this NDE, but they were enhanced afterward. My view of life completely changed, especially regarding the people involved with the stresses in my life and my relationships with them. My circumstances did not change for another 15 years, but my way of handling the problems changed.

I no longer thought about suicide. I was no longer afraid of death. I feel I became more compassionate when dealing with patients. My empathy increased, and I could feel their issues. I started hands-on healing using Reiki methods and still use it frequently.

I feel I could see the bigger picture of life, and it has helped me in so many different ways since my NDE. It makes me cry with intense feelings of love whenever I think of the experience. It was very profound and changed my life for the better. My problems were still there, but they were different after this.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

Did you feel separated from your body? I lost awareness of my body

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? During the whole experience it seemed about the same intensity. When I was covered by the light next to the figure, it was probably the strongest.
The light was very intense, and there was mostly white and blue color. The feeling of love was like nothing I had ever felt before or since.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness? More consciousness and alertness than normal

Were your thoughts speeded up? Faster than usual

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning
Although the clock showed I had been gone for about 3 minutes, the experience seemed much longer. I could sense everything all at once, especially the overwhelming feeling of love, which immersed me.

Were your senses more vivid than usual? More vivid than usual

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience I could see clearly there, and didn't need glasses until years later. The brightness was extreme but I could stare at it with no problems.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience I didn't hear anything. The communication was with thought. I didn't hear anything else.

Did you seem to be aware of things going on elsewhere? No

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? Yes
I passed through an area that was more a corridor than a tunnel, and it was white. I saw various things.

Did you see any beings in your experience? No

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased beings? Yes
As I moved forward, I saw more and more people ahead of me, all moving toward the light. There were hundreds, maybe thousands. They were in silhouette, and of different sizes.

Did you see or feel surrounded by a brilliant light? An unusually bright light

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes
The light was very bright and glowing, and increased in size as I moved forward. It appeared to be moving light, ethereal in nature. I could stare at it with no problem.

Did you seem to enter another world? A clearly mystical or unearthly realm
It was unlike anything I had seen or experienced, even while meditating previously. This was very different and special, bright, vibrating, luminous.

What emotions did you feel during the experience? Pure love in its extreme form

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Incredible peace or pleasantness

Did you have a feeling of joy? Incredible joy

Did you feel a sense of harmony or unity with the universe? I felt united or one with the world

Did you suddenly understand everything? Everything about the universe
What I was shown was so intense that I felt I was a part of everything. I didn't want to return, as I felt I was basically back home where I belonged.

Did scenes from your past come back? No

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure? Yes
I could not move past the place where I was next to the figure. There was no physical structure, but it was obvious that I couldn't move forward.

Did you come to a border or point of no return? I came to a barrier that I was not permitted to cross; or was sent back against my will
As soon as I was told I couldn't stay, I was back in my body in a flash.

God, Spiritual and Religion:

What was your religion prior to your experience? Buddhist
Raised as a Christian, but researched all religions for many years. Adopted Buddhist ideals as part of my beliefs. Not a practicing Buddhist, then or now.

Have your religious practices changed? No

What is your religion now? Other or several faiths
Theosophy seems the closest to what I follow.

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience
Since I had studied all religions, and searched for answers for many years previously, I found that some of my beliefs or thoughts were correct, and some were not. I became more empathetic to others' beliefs after this. Before this, I was more judgmental about certain religions, and how they manipulated the followers.

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes
My whole perception about life changed for the better. My values were the same, my beliefs were pretty similar, but the application of these things towards others was enhanced. My psychic abilities and hands-on healing improved.

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? I encountered a definite being, or a voice clearly of mystical or unearthly origin
The figure appeared next to me after the corridor and as I moved toward the light. "He" told me I could look, but not stay.

Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)? No

During your experience, did you gain information about premortal existence? No

During your experience, did you gain information about universal connection or oneness? Yes
The intense love I felt was the connection to a universal presence.

During your experience, did you gain information about the existence of God? No

After seeing what I saw, I knew that there was a soul path after death. I felt it without question.

During your experience, did you gain information about love? Yes
The love that I felt was so wonderful and intense, like nothing I have experienced before or since. It is still accessible when I recall the experience.

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Large changes in my life
I am more compassionate, empathetic, caring towards others. I don't judge others as harshly as I did before the experience, and I look at my life differently. I still don't know if I am fulfilling what I am meant to do, but I know I am trying harder. I look to show up in meaningful ways.

All changed for the better.

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Yes
The words I use to explain it don't seem good enough. It really can't be described because it was too intense to put into words. The enormity of the experience is hard to describe to someone.

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience
When I recall this experience, it seems like the images are as clear as when it happened.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes
I can sense the energies of people I am around. It helps me with my dealings with them. I try to help them with my own energy in a healing way. I had this ability a little before the experience, but it was greatly enhanced afterwards.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? The love was the most significant aspect of the experience. The degree of the feeling is indescribable. It was totally amazing, powerful, and permeating. The fact that I felt it so much and felt so connected was very special.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes
I shared it right away with my partner and 2 family members. My partner was very skeptical of anything relating to these experiences. My family members were very supportive, and believed me.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? No

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real
It was so intense that there was no question that I experienced it. I replayed the experience many times in my mind, and I think about it now during times of turmoil or stress, or when I need to feel connected to the universal realm.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real
I feel like it happened for a reason. It saved my life. It improved my life. It made me a better person. I am so thankful that I got to experience this phenomenon.

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience? No

Did the questions asked and information that you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience? Yes
I think the questions covered everything well.

Anything else to add? At the time, I needed this reassurance that there was something more than the earthly life we live. I was so unhappy, and questioning the worth of going on. This experience saved my life, and made it 100% better all around. So grateful for it.
