Experience Description I had an upset stomach and got up to go to the bathroom. When I got off the toilet, I looked down and saw only blood. I walked into the next room and called for my wife. Then I started vomiting straight blood. I guess I passed out because when I opened my eyes, I was in the car leaning against the door at the hospital, and it was really hard to breathe. As I used all the strength I had to take a breath, my vision closed in on me. I remembered thinking, "So this is what it's like to die." Then there was nothing, like I was in some kind of void with no sense of time. Suddenly, I found myself standing in what I thought was a room, but there was no floor, walls, or ceiling that I could see. All around me was a brilliant, pure white light that seemed to glow. Then I thought, "Wow, I have no pain of any kind. I feel perfect." A sense of love and joy washed over me like a giant wave, and I thought, "I'm home. I'm finally home." It was like the weight of the world was lifted from me. I could sense that I was surrounded by loved ones. My grandmother was by my side, and I was so happy to be there. I felt pain in my chest that was getting worse, like someone was tightening a band around me. Then the pain was gone. I opened my eyes and heard someone crying. It was my wife standing to the side. I asked, "What's wrong with you?" Then two nurses ran into the room, and one of them said, "Oh my God, how do you feel?" I replied, "I feel fine. Why?" I tried to sit up because I felt great, but passed out from lack of blood. I spent the next four weeks in the intensive care unit (ICU); then one week in a regular room until my heart got back to a steady rhythm. I lost 60 pounds. When I told the doctors what I saw, they insisted that it didn't happen. But, I still remember every detail. I have no fear of dying any longer. I wanted to go back home, but it's not my time yet. I've lost two wives to cancer and shared my story with both of them; hoping it would bring them some comfort. I have never seen anything even close to what I saw over there or felt such a powerful sense of love, joy, and peace. Regardless of what anyone says, I know it was real because I was there. Since then, my relationship with God has been much closer. I talk to him every day.
