Experience Description

I was 7 years old in 1981 when I flipped over the handlebars on my bicycle and landed on my head. I instantly left my body and floated above myself without a physical form. I felt no pain or fear. For what seemed like a long time, I saw myself upside down at the point of impact, frozen in time. Then I saw myself lying on the sidewalk, bleeding, while the other kids panicked about what to do. I felt at peace as everything unfolded, simply observing from above.

Then my father came home from work. He sprang into action, picked me up, and put me into our Volkswagen van. Once he placed me inside, my out-of-body experience ended. If my father hadn’t come home at that moment, I would have died, I’m sure.

When I got home from the hospital about two weeks later, I asked the neighborhood kids who were there to describe exactly what they saw and where they stood. I questioned each of them, curious how I could have witnessed everything from above. I didn’t know what to make of it, and the kids seemed skeptical of my story, so I left it alone. I never talked to anyone about it. It was my own knowledge.

Since that event, I’ve been unable to join a religion. I believe there is something special and spiritual beyond life. Just be good to others and enjoy the time we have here.
