Experience Description

I was in India in transit when I became ill with malaria, yellow fever, and dysentery. I was stuck in a small village and unable to travel. For days, I drifted in and out of consciousness. A local doctor, my brother, and some of the villagers attended to me. I was tortured by physical pain.

Then came the day I remember clearly. The doctor took my wrist and told my brother, “He’s gone, Sahib.” At that moment, my shadow seemed to slip above my body. I saw my brother become frantic. He was crying, shaking the doctor, and screaming, “What am I going to tell my family?”

Meanwhile, I casually glided through a haze. A figure was sitting there waiting for me. The feeling of safety and peace was exceptional. Of course, I also felt physically wonderful. I believe the person sitting in front of me was either a manifestation of myself or some kind of saintly entity.

“I will allow you to return if you’d like,” the voice said. More than half a century later, I still wonder, what the hell was I thinking?

He kissed me on the head, and I sank back into my body. I stood up and was cured, much to the disbelief of the doctor, my brother, and everyone around me.
