Experience Description On October 16, 2008, when I was 16 years old, I was involved in a serious motorcycle accident in Frattamaggiore around 11:00 PM. I had purchased my SH 125 scooter less than a month earlier and was riding with a group of friends. There were five motorcycles and about ten of us in total. As we approached an intersection, a car struck me. I was thrown into the air and lost consciousness immediately. The accident was severe enough to be reported in local newspapers and on television. I sustained critical injuries, including five brain aneurysms, severe head trauma, a lung contusion, and the loss of my left lung. Emergency medical interventions were required, including cranial drainage procedures and specialized medications, some of which were reportedly sourced from the United States. I remained in a deep coma for approximately sixteen to seventeen days. My last memories before losing consciousness were leaving a gas station in Cardito, followed by a sudden sense of silence and confusion. I then experienced what felt like an out-of-body perspective, seeing myself lying on the ground after the impact. After that, my awareness shifted into something entirely different. I felt as if I were on a train, arriving at what seemed to be a camp. In this place, I was no longer my current age but instead a child of about nine years old, living with parents who were not my real ones. Everyone around me wore black-and-white striped clothing. What I experienced there felt completely real, not like a dream. There were many people, including families and children, and daily life seemed to follow a routine that included playing and ordinary activities. At some point, I was taken into a large room filled with people who were crying, although the individuals I perceived as my parents tried to reassure me. The experience ended abruptly with a sudden collapse of everyone around me and a sense of chaos and confusion. I also felt physical sensations, as if children were pulling my ears and slapping me. Immediately after this, I regained consciousness in a hospital bed. Approximately sixteen to seventeen days had passed. At the time of the accident, I had very limited education and no knowledge of historical events such as concentration camps, Adolf Hitler, or the Holocaust. Despite this, the environment I experienced during the coma closely resembled a concentration camp, including the striped clothing and overall structure. About two months after waking, I watched the movie The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and was shocked to recognize elements that were nearly identical to what I had experienced. Even years later, the memory of that experience has remained vivid and consistent. It has never felt like a dream, but rather like something real that I lived through.
