Experience Description

I had a motorcycle accident when I was nineteen years old. I don't remember anything after being struck by an automobile. I found out later a few details about the accident.

I ended up with a broken femur, torn quad muscle on the other leg, my helmet cracked and I had trauma to the head. I also sustained amnesia for ten days.

While in the hospital, I had an experience that I couldn't explain at the time. I thought it was a dream, which was the only thing I could recall during the amnesia period. I was on a bed, lying face up, so relaxed, no pain whatsoever. I started to rise up off the bed, peaceful. I saw a beautiful light all around me, going up like a tunnel. I heard music being played by two angels. Harps were strumming. Finally, I heard a voice asking me, 'Are you ready?' It was a deep male voice. I remember saying' No, I'm not ready.' Right then, I started on a descent back to a bed. I just remember, no fear, the most peaceful state ever. There was beautiful, calming music.

I was in the hospital for a couple of weeks, finally learning that I did have amnesia, at first I was so confused. I remembered all what happened, even with the amnesia. I didn't tell too many people about the experience because I figured they wouldn't have believed me.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? When I heard the male voice, asking if I was ready.

Were your thoughts speeded up? Incredibly fast

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning Just slowed down.

Were your senses more vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. Heard the harp music so clear, not loud. It was just perfect.

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? Yes I was rising up off the bed into a beautiful tunnel of light.

Did you see any beings in your experience? I actually saw them

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? Yes Two angels, playing harps they were where I was going up the tunnel of light. I saw them; they did have wings and playing their harps.

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes The most beautiful, calming, peaceful light. Bright, but felt soft.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real I knew something was different about this experience. I found out I had amnesia and remember this so much.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real I know what I heard and saw. It remains constant in my mind thirty years later.
