Experience Description

I fell through a roof. I did two complete rotations, and as soon as I hit the ground with my head, everything went black.

I’ve been knocked out before, and this void was not like being unconscious. It was like an eternity of a void. Then, all of a sudden, I was next to my great-grandmother and staring down at my body.

Then I heard my dad and the three other gentlemen working with us; everyone was yelling.

I watched my father fireman-slide down the ladder and run over to my body. One of the other guys dropped to his knees and started crying. Another worker was calling 911. I watched my dad cradle my body, scream, and cry. At the same time, I was hit with a wealth of knowledge like every question I could ever wonder about was answered in less than a moment. I felt an overwhelming calm, and I knew everything was OK and going to be OK.

It was like I was one big giant eyeball that could not move. But I could see the scene of my death and everything had a brilliant, beautiful lighting to it. A dark, damp, rain-soaked tobacco warehouse could never look so beautiful. I started praying, saying, 'Please watch over my wife and please watch over my mother and grandfather and please let them know that I love them.' I started to regret that I did not tell these people in my life that I love them every time we parted ways. I knew how important it was to let people know that I love them because now I realized you never know when your time may come.

I was then able to move my view. The screams of my father got louder in my ears, and I then prayed, 'Lord please do not let me down in front of my dad. He’s screwed up enough as it is.'

At that moment, the void came back to the deep, dark nothingness. I then saw a little tiny light, that slowly got bigger and bigger. I then heard the most disturbing sounds a human could make. I did not know what it was coming from. As the light circle got closer and bigger, the noise became louder and louder. My father’s cries became more distant. As the circle of light fully came within my view, it was my consciousness coming back into my body. It felt like the world was spinning as the pain hit me like a freight train. Those weird, distressing, bloodcurdling moans were coming from my body.

I was in the hospital for quite some time and did not see my dad or the man we were working with for a month or so. When I was able to walk again, I went to visit them and told them of my experience. They all became pale with goosebumps because they could not understand how I told them everything they did with amazing detail. Yet, I was unconscious, not breathing and on the ground for around three or four minutes according to them. I always believe in a higher power but after this experience, I know that there is a life after death for sure.

Background Information:

Gender: Male

Date NDE Occurred: September 2015

NDE Elements:

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes Accident. Clinical death (cessation of breathing or heart function) I grew up roofing and have been on roofs since I was age of five. I had never had an accident other than minor cuts or scrapes. We were working on a old tobacco form, and I was not aware that there was skylights that had been covered with corrugated metal. I was walking up the roof at an angle and put my left foot down and the floor gave way and I fell through the roof 27 feet. The day before we got all the wood and hard materials in a trailer and then moved all the soft materials into a pile and by the grace of God, I landed on that pile. I cracked two teeth, broke my back, broke. My butt bone broke my arm, tore multiple muscles in my back and neck, and ended up having to back surgeries.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Both pleasant AND distressing

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes I watched what everyone was doing around my body while I was looking down on everything. I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal. I only say it was more because of the wealth of knowledge that was floated into me all at once. But I feel like my mind was operating the same as if I was just going about my day is normal.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? The entire time until I came back into my body than the effects of severe concussion, or starting to sit in black, get out, and time loss.

Were your thoughts speeded up? No

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Time seemed to go faster or slower than usual. When I was in the black void, it was like time did not exist

Were your senses More vivid than usual? More vivid than usual

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. Everything was brighter, and seem to be shimmering with its own type of life.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. It seem to be greater, because I could hear everything yet be far away from my body.

Did you seem to be aware of things going on elsewhere? No

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? Yes I passed through a tunnel, because I saw a little dot of light, which grew increasingly bigger until I could see everything. But that was me coming back into my body not like how some people say they go through a tunnel to heaven or something like that.

Did you feel a sense of harmony or unity with the universe? I felt united or one with the world

Did scenes from your past come back to you? No

Did scenes from the future come to you? No

Did you come to a border or point of no return? I came to a definite conscious decision to return to life. Like I said, in my experience description, I was praying and knew that I was dead but as I heard my dad's cries, I asked the Lord please do not let me down in front of my dad. He’s screwed up enough as it is, and instantly was put back in the void. Then I saw the small dot of light, which grew bigger and bigger and bigger until I was back in my body. I would describe it, like the world was coming back to my consciousness through my body’s view.

Have your religious practices changed since your experience? Yes I am now a practicing Christian.

What is your religion now? I currently go to church and m a firm believer in Jesus

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience. I was raised in the Pentecostal Church, and had the Bible preach to me heavily. But as I became older, I was pretty much agnostic kind of. I could look at the complexities of this universe and the plant life and animals in it and see the beauty and see that there was probably more than likely a grand creator. But I was not sure which religion had it, correct if any. And I’ll take my children to church and I believe in Jesus Christ, but if I got it wrong, I don’t think God will Hold it against me that I call them a different name. As long as I am the best man, I can be a treat. Those ones around me how I would like to be treated. I’m sure I will get into the good Place.

During your experience, did you gain information about the existence of God? Yes I felt the presence of a loving, being who watches overall, and though no words were spoken, everything was told to me all at once, and I knew that God was real.

Concerning our Earthly lives other than Religion:

During your experience, did you gain special knowledge or information about your purpose? Yes Not in great detail. I was told that my task was not done here, but I was not told what that task was

During your experience, did you gain information about the meaning of life? Yes I was told that it was not my time, and I was not finished with my task here on this world. This was not spoken in words at the time, I did not have any children and now I have three young daughters, who have brought joy to so many lives, and have so much potential for this world.

During your experience, did you gain information about an afterlife? Yes I felt the presence of my great grandmother, who had been dead for quite some time. While it was not Spoken through words, I was told that everything was going to be OK and in that moment I knew that there is life after death

Did you gain information about how to live our lives? No

During your experience, did you gain information about life's difficulties, challenges and hardships? No

During your experience, did you gain information about love? Yes During my experience, I only had one regret, and it was that I did not tell the ones I love that I love them every time we parted ways. And I will tell everyone home. I love that I love them when I leave their presents. We never know when our time will be and I want them to know how I feel about them and I try to get others to do the same because I do not want them to have those regrets especially if they do not come back to their bodies.

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Large changes in my life I have a deeper relationship with God, and I am way more loving of an individual, especially towards my family, and those that are special in my life.

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? They are deeper. Yes

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Yes It was easy to explain what I saw, but it’s hard to explain the feelings and knowledge during my experience of being out of my body

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Uncertain And now, I sometimes have dreams that seem to be premonitions of days that have yet to come

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? The whole thing was significant in this reality, and the one I was in briefly or for a long time. Time is definitely perceived different while you are out of your body.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes First, I shared it with my wife and my mother. But when I shared it with my father and the men that were there that day, and that they confirmed that everything I saw them doing actually happened that’s when it really set in that this wasn’t just a concussion dream of some sort that it actually happened. Wish I knew in my heart was true.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? Uncertain A new event from things in the culture like cartoons such as all dogs go to Heaven or things like that do you know when a cartoon character dies and you see them get wings and go to heaven like Tom and Jerry or something like that. But I never heard any real world accounts of these things happening until I had my experience. And when I told my wife about it, she got very interested and started looking on the Internet and we found multiple people describing their death experience, and it was eerily similar to mine. Like people dying on the operating table and telling their doctor with great detail of everything that they did, and they were grateful for not giving up on them and keep working on their body to get them back alive.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was probably real. The first week or so, I believe it was definitely real. Then, as the time went on of being in this reality, your mind starts to play tricks on you like well. You did hit your head really hard, so it may have just been some kind of concussion drain or something even though in my heart, I knew that was not true. Then when I told my experience to the ones that were there with me when it happened, and that they confirmed that I recounted everything that happened with great detail while I was unconscious and not breathing then I knew, for a fact it was true.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real. My explanation above copy paste

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience? Yes I tried LSD and the way everything kind of breathes and shines when it first starts to kick in Is kind of similar to the way things look when I was out of my body. It is similar but different.

Is there anything else that you would like to add about your experience? I think I’ve explained it very well
