Experience Description

While giving birth, I had a reaction to the gas (oxygen) used to alleviate some of the labor pain.

I felt like I left my body and followed a long, dry river bed. Although there was no water in the river bed, all around was very lush green grass with a beautiful array of flowers with splendid colors. There were large shady trees of all sizes.

I began to climb higher into the sky and then into space. I was looking down on earth. Then there was a bright flash and all went white. Out of this whiteness came human figures. These figures had no discernible features. One of them came up to me and although I couldn't see a face, I felt that I knew this being. I asked where I was and it replied that I was home. I then said that I can't stay here, as I haven't seen my baby yet.

With that, there was a great rush of movement and I was back in my body. The nurse was saying that my pupils were dilated to pinpoints. Then I came round and said, ‘I just died. I'm back again now.’

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes I heard the nurse talking when I was coming back around. I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal Everything was much more vivid, clear, and clean. It was just more!

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? All of it.

Were your thoughts speeded up? No

Were your senses more vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes An incredible Whiteness. Not blinding, but pure white.

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? A clearly mystical or unearthly realm I was well above Earth. Everything there was white, calm, and peaceful.

What emotions did you feel during the experience? Overwhelming calmness and peace.

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience I believed that there was a life after death, but not to the extent that I experienced.

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes I became a lot more aware of what was happening around me. I seem to see things clearer and take more notice of things that happened. I took things that happened to have some meaning to me.

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? I encountered a definite being, or a voice clearly of mystical or unearthly origin A white figure with no features spoke to me, but more so with mind telepathy.

During your experience, did you gain information about universal connection or oneness? Uncertain It was only a feeling that I was in a life after the life I was living. It was like another existance of my life

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Yes The overpowering emotion and well-being are difficult to explain. What I saw and did was not hard to say.

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience For my experience was 29 years ago, it is still very vivid in my mind. I remember it all vey clearly.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? No

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? All of it. It tells me that I was welcomed into the other plane of existence. But they were happy for me to remain in this one.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes Told my husband immediately. He is a non-believer and now, maybe, a little more open. Some of my friends believed and were happy for me.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? Yes I had heard of it, but didn't take much notice of it or anyone who had claimed to have experienced it.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real To me it was real. I felt like I had lived through it and still to this day feel as though I have.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real

Is there anything else that you would like to add about your experience? Whether my experience was real or not to other people, it was real to me. I am not saying there is a heaven, but there is something beyond this earthly existence.
