Experience Description

I had been married for only a year and was about 5-1/2 months pregnant with my first child. I had developed toxemia. It was seriously detrimental to my health and the health of my baby. I had driven myself to my doctor appointment that day. I remember I had a massive headache and had a general feeling of being unwell. As soon as I arrived, I was rushed into a room. I laid down on the table and my blood pressure was taken about 18 times. I was getting super annoyed by this point. I was in the U.S.Airforce at the time and now was late for work. My husband needed the car and I had it. I didn't realize how dangerously close I was to having a heart attack. I was immediately admitted into hospital. My blood pressure had been 180/120 and my doctor could not understand how I was still functioning. The kidneys had start shutting down and I had retained so much fluid, I could not tell where my knees were.

I didn't get any better during this time, but I stayed in that bed on my left side until I went into labor. I went into labor. During this time, the doctors had given me morphine to stop the labor. I remember I thought, 'Oh, wow. I am going to die.' Then a nurse come into the room and said she would stay with me. I had never seen this nurse before. I remember telling her how golden she glowed. She said to 'Just rest' and placed her hand on my forehead. The pain was the worse thing I had ever experienced.

The next thing I know, I am floating above my body and my heart had stopped. I remember watching the doctors rush in the room, the machines buzzing, and seeing them pumping my chest to get a heartbeat. I remember saying, 'I do not want to go back in that body.' I floated and watched for what seemed like hours. All of a sudden, a tunnel opened by the ceiling in the corner of the room. It was so bright, but I could still see. I knew I was supposed to go and I floated right into that tunnel. I remember it was like being in a warm bath and I floated in this tunnel for a while. It was so peaceful and calm and then I came to the other side. I saw the most brilliant city. There were lights everywhere and I saw thousands of people. I wasn't able to see their faces but I knew they were waiting for me. I felt so much love at that moment. Then I heard the voice, 'It is not your time yet. You have to go back. You have unfinished business.' I argued, 'I do not want to go back. Please don't make me!'

I woke up two or three days later in the intensive care unit. The baby had been cut out in an emergency situation. His apgar scores were 6 or 7. He was blue and floppy but he did survive. There were no ill effects to him and today he is a dad himself. I had my bladder cut through in their crazy attempt to get him out. I have discovered that I was sent back to help others. I have helped raise many children who were not my own. This was my purpose for coming back. I have lost a lot of people and prior to their passing, I was able to recant my experience and how incredible it was. There is nothing to fear from passing - it is living that is hard.
