Experience Description

I had been trying to get clean, off drugs but relapsed. I left work and stopped to get heroin. I was living with my family so I didn’t want to take the drug at home. So, I stopped at a different city nearby. I did a shot of heroin and laid down in the tanning bed with the door locked.

I was above my body. I watched as the police and firefighters came into the room. I could see my blue body but didn’t notice whether I was breathing or not. I saw one of the first responders use two doses of nasal narcan on me because the first dose didn’t work . After the second dose, I felt sucked back into my body.

I opened my actual eyes to blurred vision and heard ungodly ringing in my ears. I couldn’t hear what the people around me were saying, not for a while. They loaded me on the stretcher. I was conscious at this point and knew they took me to the hospital. They said I was overdosing for at least 47 minutes before they came in the room. The room attendant just thought I’d fallen asleep. Since I don't think I completely died, I didn’t see the tunnel or anything like that. I think I was right on the verge of clinical death since my heart rate had gone down significantly. I was having trouble breathing like once a minute, the firefighter told me.

I know this experience isn't the tunnel and light and all that, but I was definitely floating above my dying body. I didn’t believe in god at the time. After this experience and after seeing what I saw, not only did it prompt me to quit using drugs, but I also now believe in something. I don't know what but it is something other than me fading to black when I die. I do believe that without a doubt now.
