Experience Description

In the summer of 2006, we were heading to the grocery store. We were planning to drive to my mom's work to surprise her with flowers, balloons, and a card for her birthday. My sister's boyfriend, at the time, was driving. I was in the rear, left seat, and my sister was up front in the passenger seat. We successfully picked up the balloons, flowers, and card but never made it to my mom's work. On our way there, my sister's boyfriend, from what I was told, ran a red light and we were T-boned in an intersection. The car hit my side of the car. I received a fractured pelvic bone in addition to needing stiches in my left calf from glass slicing into it.

Directly prior to the collision, I remember my sister suddenly screaming which lead me to look around. I looked to my left and noticed a car within milliseconds of making impact with us. That car was close enough where I felt I could have reached out and touched it with my hand. From that point, it was almost like time froze.

The next thing I remember was lying on my back in the street, roughly 50 yards away from the initial impact. I was being attended to by emergency medical staff. Obviously some time must have passed from initial impact to that moment but I have no recollection of how I got there.

The only thing I remember directly after impact is seeing an 'unearthly, white light' surrounding my entire vision. I was feeling intensely at peace. I was never worried, anxious, scared, traumatized, or anything like that. I never saw any unearthly figures or talked to anyone during this time. It was just a white and extremely peaceful place. Although I don't know if I would call it a place I went to because I never felt like I was transcending somewhere. I don't recall having to make a decision if I wanted to return back to earth or not. I just felt someone or something made the decision that it wasn't my time to go just yet.

As I was lying on the ground in the street, the only thing I remember that stood out is asking where my brother was. I'm not sure why I asked where he was. Eventually, I was put in an ambulance, sent to the emergency room, to receive treatment for my injuries.

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning.
