Experience Description

It started out a night like any other weekend night. But this weekend would be different. My girlfriend, best friend, and I, went to a party. That night I drank an excessive amount of alcohol, swallowed a lot of pills, and was smoking pot. As the night went on, I started getting sick. Since my girlfriend was sober, she drove us home. As we reached home, I tried to tell her that something wasn't right with me. The last thing I remember was my girlfriend asking me, 'What are you saying? I can't understand you.'

The next thing I know, I was out of my body. I was above the streets of the city where we lived. I saw cars, people, stop lights, and everything else. But, it had no meaning to me. I felt free, pure bliss, and peace. I had no thoughts of what just happened. There was no thinking. It was as if I've always been this way. It was nothing like being in a body. I felt no pain. There were no thoughts, but I knew there was something beyond that.

It was also like I was in a gulf/tube, something I knew but hard to explain. It was like glass in between me and the world, but yet I couldn't see it. Although it could not be seen, I knew it was there. It was clear between me and the Earth. It was just natural as if for whatever reason it is supposed to be there.

I looked and was going towards the West. I do not know why, other than what was ahead of me. I had no fear. It was a place I was going to, but I knew if I reached that place that I was not coming back. It was light. It was something that cannot be described by human language. It wasn't a city. But it was like a gulf of some sort that I was to pass through. It seemed like some type of portal. I don't know where it went. I just knew that's where I was going.

I didn't see any other beings, hear a voice, or if I was guided by something other than I just followed and knew where to go. I never saw family members or anything. I'm not sure as to why. As I got closer and closer to this place, I suddenly went back into my body.

I was surrounded by paramedics, my girlfriend was crying and my friend was freaking out. They brought me back from a cardiac arrest. I was taken to the hospital for observations for a few days. I consumed an overly excessive amount of alcohol and pills which brought on ventricular arrhythmia. I never told anyone what happened that night for twenty years.

I only told a few people after that. The main reason is that it's hard to describe with words. Words really can't explain like I want to describe what the experience was. I just do the best I can. I also felt nobody would believe me. It took me even longer to tell my friend that was there about my experience. I told him just a few years ago. He believed me and said, I had no reason not tell him. It was an experience like no other and like so many other NDEs each seems to be their own personal to them. I respect all who has had one. I can relate to them.
