Experience Description

It was on Monday, September 3rd, I went to work as usual and felt as if I was coming down with tonsillitis, so I went to the pharmacy and bought over the counter pain killers. I went home and lay on the couch, after an hour I decided to go gargle on some salt water. That was the last thing I remember doing. The next time I found myself conscious, I was in the emergency room with needles all over me and breathing aids.

When I passed out, I felt a strong force drifting me away to higher ground. Then I came to again. When I opened my eyes, I saw my brother carrying me to the car then I passed out again. This time I was breathing hard when all of a sudden I breathed one last breath. This time I found myself in a void. I don't know where that was but I felt as if something was lifting me higher. In the background, I could hear my brother calling out my name and screaming to my father that I wasn't breathing. It felt as if he was miles away. Then all went quiet. I saw a big tunnel or something like a hole growing bigger and getting closer, as it got closer, a light was appearing. At first, I was frightened but a sudden wave of calmness appeared as the light got lighter and the tunnel got wider. I suddenly thought to myself where was I going and started fighting back.

That's when I came to and found myself in the emergency room; I could not talk. I just blinked and I heard the doctor say, 'Wait I think she is breathing.' I was injected thousands of needles and I felt as if my heart would explode. I had difficulty in breathing. Later after the doctors thought I would live, I removed the oxygen mask from my mouth and told the nurse that I couldn't feel my legs. She tried pinching me but I could feel nothing. After a while, she had to call the doctor to check on my senses and muscles. I later got well but stayed at the hospital for quite a while. The nurses and doctor told me that they tried everything and thought I would never make it as by the time we reached the hospital I was almost dead. After a week, I was discharged. But my legs were still swollen. I was later told that I had pneumonia combined with malaria and typhoid.
