Experience Description

I went in for an outpatient surgery. Hip arthroscopy. The surgery went well, but it all went wrong in the outpatient. I was (unknowingly) overdosed on narcotics and was sent home. I passed out on my bed. My mother came up later to give me more pain medication and my face was blue. Fortunately, my father is well trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and checked for breathing and a pulse, which I did not have. He began chest compressions and rescue breaths until a police officer came to help. I went for a little over a minute with no breathing or pulse. I remember having a strange dream. I was going through a ribbed tunnel, and then nothing. Later it changed slightly, and I perceived my body floating through the nothingness. The next part is somewhat comical. I gained consciousness when I was slid off the backboard onto the bed in the emergency room, then passed out. I woke up to several people attempting to get tubes in, and asked them, ‘Would you please stop poking me,’ and passed out once more. I woke up while a male nurse putting a catheter in and said either, ‘This is uncomfortable,’ or ‘This is uncomfortable for both of us.’ I finally gained full consciousness around 5am, and was aware I had died.
