NDE due to drowning. Shared 51 years later.">

Experience Description

We were having a family picnic at the lake. My cousin (older male by a few years) and I walked to the lake. He found a wooden matchbox that I wanted to see but he wouldn't let me have it and threw it into the lake. I jumped in after it, the water was over my head, and I could not swim. He ran back to the picnic area for help. My father and uncle pulled me out and attempted CPR even though they weren't trained to do CPR. Eventually I was revived and taken to the hospital where I spent a couple of days in observation.

After going in the lake, I found myself surrounded by vague images that I couldn't make out but they were in front of a bright light that was coming from all directions. There was a feeling of great love coming from all of them with an overwhelming feeling of love surrounding and behind them. The love I felt seemed to be the love of a grandmother, coming from each of them. After experiencing this feeling of love for a while, I was told it wasn't my time and I needed to go back but they would see me again in the future.

When I came to, I was in my uncle's car with him driving and my father holding me in the passenger seat. I blacked out again and didn't come to for a couple of days.

One thing I'd say is I often feel that the earth's religions don't quite get it right but I can't offer anything definitive. It's just a vague feeling that each is wrong. It feels like portions of each religion were put in place to try to prove their religion is more accurate than the others. What I KNOW is that love and understanding are the most important things for beings on earth. It seems like too many religions want to say they are the one true religion and their followers are willing to die and kill others in those beliefs. To me, this is absolutely wrong.

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Yes I've never told anyone about it. It seems so unreal but has had a profound effect on my life, although I don't really have anything else to compare my life to. I've seen lots of movies about near death experiences and none really seemed to ring true until I saw the movie 'Afterlife' which was far closer to what I remembered than anything I'd ever seen regarding the 'experience'.

I know there is a purpose to life, although I realize that I don't understand what it is. It is probably beyond my understanding. I've read about experiences of young children and understand that the vocabulary and mental resources of a 4-year-old limit my memories. I will probably never fully understand what occurred to me.

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience? No
