Experience Description

When I was 4 years old, I was in the backyard with my grandpa, the neighbor, and her daughter who was my age. She and I were playing in the baby pool. My grandpa was talking about me starting kindergarten with the neighbor. I remember I got upset. I told him I did not want to go to school because I was scared. I got out of the pool and ran to the swing set. The swing set had monkey bars on the left, two swings in the middle, and a slide on the right. My mom said I was trying to show my grandpa a trick. I climbed up and grabbed the first bar. I swung my legs over the next bar to where I was hanging upside down with my hands on one bar and my legs wrapped around the next bar. I was wet from the pool and did not have a good grip on the bar. My hands and legs slipped. I fell straight down, on my back. It felt like the wind was knocked out of me. I wanted to get up, but I closed my eyes and everything went dark.

When I opened my eyes, I was above my body. I saw grandpa trying to open my mouth to give me CPR. There were so many other people around me, but I did not know who they were. I did not see my mom in that crowd of people. But I do remember seeing my mom talking on the phone to my dad, while she was in the kitchen. She was standing next to the window with the long cord attached to the telephone receiver. I heard her say, 'I'll have to call you back!' I did see her and remembered the window she was standing at was to the right hand side, looking out the driveway. I was maybe about a few feet above everyone and watching everything happening. When mom heard someone say, 'Call 911' she ran out to me. She held my head for my grandpa to give me CPR because I was not breathing. Then I heard my grandpa softly and calmly call my name. I opened my eyes and sat up.

I was o.k. and not scared or crying. I stood up and then walked to the bench.

I don't know who the crowd of people I saw who were around me, because when I was above, I did not see the neighbor, her daughter, or the paramedics. I don't remember what happened after I got up. My mom said we went to the emergency room in an ambulance.

When I was three years old, we were in Michigan at my grandpa's lake house. We were riding around in his speed boat. I fell out of the boat without a life jacket. I remember is falling, slowly down under the water. I saw a bright light like the sun shining at the surface of the water. I don't remember being scared. I remember how pretty the sun looked while staring at it. The next thing I remember was standing in the boat with a towel wrapped around me. I was standing in front of my mom as she was asking me if I was ok, because I was in complete shock and not moving.

I found out much later, that when I fell off the boat, my uncle had to turn the engine off because the current took me under the boat.

I had one other experience that I'm not sure if this was an NDE or not. I remember it like it was yesterday. I started using heroin when I was age 21. I got sober on 6/18/2013 at age 24 years old. I had a bad, costly habit by shooting up four, 10-dollar bags at a time. This was a time when it was only heroin and not cut with fentanyl. I have 10 years soberiety now.

At age 24 in March 2013, I was at the Dunkin Donuts with my boyfriend. We were waiting for my dealer. When the dealer arrived, it was 930pm. We got our drugs, went to the Lowes home improvement store to use their bathroom to get high before they closed at 10 pm. I went into the private bathroom. I remember before I shot up, my boyfriend was knocking at the door to let him in. I don't remember anything past that time. My boyfriend said that he came back into the bathroom, trying to wake me so we could go. I was not waking up, so thought I overdosed. He left me in the bathroom and the store without telling anyone I was in there or to get help. Hours later, I woke up on the bathroom floor to the music playing on the speakers. I heard my grandpa calling my name in a soft voice. The music on the speakers was so quiet when I opened my eyes. When I was in high school, my grandpa left for work at 5am every morning. He would blast the radio in the kitchen to wake my brother and me up for school. I thought I was back in that time. When I got up off the bathroom floor, I was confused. It felt like I was there for a few minutes. I opened the door, stepped out, and walked to the front. It was 3am. I had to pull the fire alarm to leave the building.

The next day when I saw my boyfriend it was like he had seen a ghost because he thought I was dead. So I am not sure if I overdosed or just went unconscious but it was all black from the moment I opened the door to let my boyfriend in until I opened my eyes to the music and heard my grandpa's voice.

I don't talk about this because I didn't want to sound crazy. If I do talk about it, I preface it with, 'I swear I am not crazy' when I start the story. Since I had those NDEs as a child, I have very vivid dreams to this day. I have intuition of knowing things before they happen. I don't know if that is from the NDEs or something else.

I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience. When I fell off the boat, I don't remember getting on or off the boat. I do remember the bright light and seeing my mom asking if I was ok.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes I have vivid dreams of signs that will happen or have senses that something will happen. My grandpa who raised me with my mom, kept thinking something bad was going to happen to him in July and August of 2007. He died suddenly on 9/6/2007. I'll have dreams of someone that I don't dream of or have talked to in a while. I will message them and ask if they are ok and if something is going on with them. More signs come to me through my dreams.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? That I was watching everything from above and hearing my grandpa's voice calling my name. I opened my eyes both times; the one time when I was on the ground after falling and when I was older on the floor in the bathroom.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes. The first time I shared my first two experiences was after they happened when I was a child. I shared with my grandpa, mom, and social worker. They all told me it was my mind playing tricks on me. When I was 24, when I got sober, I told a few people. They said, 'Oh wow! That's crazy.' I don't talk about it much because it was told not to talk about it.
