Experience Description

It's simple and I guess that is what bothers me because as much as I read it is usually much more dramatic. I know it happened and can still see the man next to my bed in my mind, but I don't know him. I was very ill and in the critical care unit. I was in the hospital about 10 days after an exploratory surgery. They thought it was gall bladder disease prior to the surgery but because of my age and because of a severe back up of bile the doctors could not be certain. It was in fact a diseased gall bladder, which was removed. I was young, lacked much confidence and didn't ask questions. I was in severe pain and fell asleep.

I became aware of a man in a grey suit standing next to my bed. He was tall, slim and older. It was not frightening in any way. He very simply said, 'you can come with me now or you can stay'. I knew he meant that I would die if I went with him. It was whatever I chose. I said very quickly, 'I still have a son in diapers I have to stay'. With no time passing whatsoever, I was back in my body and in extreme pain.

In my experience, there was no dramatic white light, no angels, and no one who had passed on. It was simple. That is the end of the story. I got well in a normal fashion. Yes, of course I have had many 'hard to explain' experiences before and since, but that is all 'normal' if people are paying attention.

Content that was entirely not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience I hadn't thought of it prior to the experience. I had not read or heard anything. It certainly was not anything going on in 65.

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes Although I had been privileged to have a resident 'ghost,' that was seen by other people as well, during my childhood. That was 'fun' because there was nothing scary going on. She would just show up sometimes. I was married at 17 and busy with kids and the usual struggles of youngsters getting married. The incident brought me back to 'thinking' and wondering if there was more. I have attended spiritual events and have a deep belief that there are things we are not aware of most of the time.

That is obviously impossible to prove. Large changes in my life.

Yes Sometimes I am spot-on-the-button when people ask me about things they have lost or what will happen. I was being trained as a teacher in the Silva Method. I had to make a living for me and my children so could not pursue that. I wish I could have. Jose Silva was quite remarkable. I don't remember being able to 'find things' prior to the event.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? Not really. It happened. It was real for me. I was not in pain during the brief experience. I hadn't thought of it prior to the experience. I had not read or heard anything. It certainly was not anything going on in 1965.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes Rarely. It's not something one should discuss with just anyone. I am a Realtor and most people would like to think I am sane.
