EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:

            I saw the hospital room that I was in (ER department). I did not want to come back, but eventually understood that I had to. not sure how I knew that, but later after I recuperated I remember knowing that I would never be afraid of dying. I also, at 18, was very sure I had to do something for other people with my life. I tried to convince my parents that I HAD to join the peace corps, something I would have never wanted to do before this happened. 

It totally changed my life. My mother died 2 years ago. I was with her when the doctor told her she had a month to live,  and was able to tell her that I was SURE she would be okay.

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words? Yes     the feeling - this was before people spoke about this like they do now!

At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?          Yes    

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness?    all of it; but I remember the last part all these years later!!

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal every day consciousness and alertness?    More consciousness and alertness than normal

Did your vision differ in any way from your normal, everyday vision (in any aspect, such as clarity, field of vision, colors, brightness, depth perception degree of solidness/transparency of objects, etc.)?  Uncertain     

Did your hearing differ in any way from your normal, everyday hearing (in any aspect, such as clarity, ability to recognize source of sound, pitch, loudness, etc.)?            Uncertain     

Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?     Yes

What emotions did you feel during the experience?            complete happiness, wonder, peace

Did you pass into or through a tunnel or enclosure?          Yes     I saw something like a tunnel, but was very aware of the peaceful light at the end

Did you see a light?           Yes     It was a light; but so much more. Almost like a living light

Did you meet or see any other beings?           Yes     I did, but cannot describe them. I "knew" they were there, and communicated without words.

Did you experience a review of past events in your life?    Uncertain     

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?          Yes     I knew I would have a daughter, and did. I "saw" her

Did you see or visit any beautiful or otherwise distinctive locations, levels or dimensions?            Uncertain     

Did you have any sense of altered space or time?   Yes     I was there a long time, to me, but it was not actually long at all

Did you have a sense of knowing special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?     Yes     I know that death is just not something to fear. Also, that we are supposed to be helping each other, as a society.

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure? Yes     I knew that I would not come back if I went over it... or through it.

Did you become aware of future events?       Yes            my daughter

Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience you did not have prior to the experience?     No      

Have you shared this experience with others?         Yes     I told my family as soon as possible. they had not heard of this, and just shrugged it off to drugs. However, I don't think I would have been on the drugs in the ER., at least not right away.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience?    Uncertain           

How did you view the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened:            Experience was definitely real

Have your relationships changed specifically as a result of your experience?           No      

Have your religious beliefs/practices changed specifically as a result of your experience?           
Yes     My religious beliefs changed to become much more expansive...less narrow..

Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?         No      

Is there anything else you would like to add concerning the experience?        my experience was a long time ago, but it still affects my life today
