EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:
This is how mom related her experience to me:
She felt like she was
in a tunnel. At the end of a tunnel was a bright light. She kept moving toward
that bright light. Once she got to the bright light, she felt a presence behind
her and knew it was Jesus. In the light, she saw her father (my grandpa) and
his brother (great uncle) sitting at a table. (They both had preceded her in
death in the early 1970's.) She looked at grandpa and said, "Dad, I want to
come with you". Grandpa turned around and spoke to someone - whom mom knew was
God although she could not see him - and when he turned back to her, he said,
"It's not time".
That's when she awoke from the "coma".
Was
the kind of experience difficult to express in words?
No Mom was able to relate her story very well. We, being so much alike,
never got along very well. She told me her story and then apologized to me for
not being a better mother.
At
the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?
Uncertain We were visiting mom following a surgery she had. She swelled up
and looked like she was 9 months pregnant. The doctors kicked us out of her
room as they began trying to revive her. (She had had surgery on Monday and
this happened the following Sunday. She couldn't remember any of us visiting
her during that week.)
At
what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness
and alertness?
The way she related it to me, she would have been most conscious and alert while
waiting for grandpa's response to her wanting to come with him.
How
did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience
compare to your normal every day consciousness and alertness?
Normal consciousness and alertness
If
your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience was
different from your normal every day consciousness and alertness, please
explain:
The way she related it to me, she would have been most conscious and alert while
waiting for grandpa's response to her wanting to come with him.
Did
your vision differ in any way from your normal, everyday vision (in any aspect,
such as clarity, field of vision, colors, brightness, depth perception degree of
solidness/transparency of objects, etc.)?
Uncertain Mom had experienced other visions including awakening abruptly
from a dream and saying out loud that something had happened to me while I was
on a train ride from Chicago (our dining car had derailed at the exact time she
awoke) and had an out-of-body experience seeing doctors perform surgery on her.
Did
your hearing differ in any way from your normal, everyday hearing (in any
aspect, such as clarity, ability to recognize source of sound, pitch, loudness,
etc.)?
Uncertain She did not say anything about hearing anything
special.
Did
you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?
No
What emotions did you feel during the experience?
From what she told me, she felt true love.
Did
you pass into or through a tunnel or enclosure?
Yes
Did
you see a light?
Yes
Did
you meet or see any other beings?
Yes See #3.
Did
you experience a review of past events in your life?
No
Did
you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience
that could be verified later?
No
Did
you see or visit any beautiful or otherwise distinctive locations, levels or
dimensions?
Yes Distinctive location is a table at which grandpa and uncle were sitting
at.
Did
you have any sense of altered space or time?
Uncertain Not that she described to me.
Did
you have a sense of knowing special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?
Yes The experience she related to me gave me the feeling that she
knew how things were going to work once it was "her time". I, myself, have had
only 1 dream of her at which I was crying beside her bed, knowing she was
deceased. She sat up on the bed and told me, "I'm okay, Linda, I'm okay".
Did
you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?
Uncertain At the end of the tunnel, in the bright light, she arrived at a
table where her dad and uncle sat.
Did
you become aware of future events?
No
Did
you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience
you did not have prior to the experience?
No
Have you shared this experience with others?
Yes Mom shared this with me within a year of this occurring. I have also
related this story to others who seemed genuinely interested.
Did
you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience?
No See #8
How
did you view the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it
happened:
Experience was definitely real If mom didn't think her experience was
definitely real, she would not have told me about it nor apologized for not
being a better mother to me.
Were there one or several parts of the experience especially meaningful or
significant to you?
Mom
impressed upon me the fact that she knew Jesus was behind her and grandpa talked
to God.
How
do you currently view the reality of your experience:
Experience was definitely real I have not reason not to believe what mom told
me about her experience.
Have your relationships changed specifically as a result of your
experience?
Yes
Mom
was apologetic and asked for my forgiveness for not being a better mother.
Have your religious beliefs/practices changed specifically as a result of your
experience?
No
Hers
remained the same up until her death. She always seemed to believe and know
about Jesus.
Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life,
medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?
No She had no others that I'm aware of.
Is
there anything else you would like to add concerning the experience?
Although I'm relating what my mother saw, I have no doubt about any of her
experience that she told me. I, at 27, was calmed by her appearance in my own
dream, that what she told me was real.
Did
the questions asked and information you provided so far accurately and
comprehensively describe your experience?
Yes At least to the point that I am relating what someone else experienced.
