Katie B's NDE

Experience description:

I was in a dark moist place that was warm. I felt totally peaceful there. Then a man in a blue shirt showed up and picked me up, and we went walking. The further we walked the brighter the light became, and he did, too. He carried me over a void place, and I was given to understand that it was hell, because there was no God there at all. It was a featureless plain that the person carried me through, all the while glowing brighter and brighter and the road we were on glowed brighter and brighter as well. Finally we were out of the void spot and the person was so bright I couldn't look at him anymore. He carried me until we reached an area that looked like to me three windows onto heaven. There I was given to understand my place wasn't there yet, and I had to go back to my body. When I did, the pain was immense and immediate.

I am no longer afraid to die.

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words? Yes     The absolute peace and comfort I felt. The regret when I knew my place wasn't there yet and I had to return to my extremely ill body.

At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?          Yes     My major organs were shutting down, and no one knew why. I was unaware of this, however. My liver failed first, then my heart stopped, then my kidneys failed. My husband found me turning blue in bed. I awoke, but my sense of hearing was gone and I couldn't talk correctly. He called 911.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness?    While he was carrying me on the bright road while he and the road got so bright I was dazzled, and when I realized I had to go back to my body.

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal every day consciousness and alertness?    More consciousness and alertness than normal

If your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience was different from your normal every day consciousness and alertness, please explain:            I had never felt such peace and joy and welcoming in my life. I belonged there and they are waiting for me to return when it is time.

Did your vision differ in any way from your normal, everyday vision (in any aspect, such as clarity, field of vision, colors, brightness, depth perception degree of solidness/transparency of objects, etc.)?  Yes     I feel like I went from the shadow of the valley of death to complete light, and I did.

Did your hearing differ in any way from your normal, everyday hearing (in any aspect, such as clarity, ability to recognize source of sound, pitch, loudness, etc.)?            No

Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?     No

What emotions did you feel during the experience?            Joy, peace and awe

Did you pass into or through a tunnel or enclosure?          Yes     It was the place where I was waiting for the light to come, but it wasn't a tunnel for me, it was just kind of dark, like gloaming time.

Did you see a light?           Uncertain      It got lighter, but until the man in the blue shirt picked me up and started to carry me, then the light grew and got brighter and brighter.

Did you meet or see any other beings?           Uncertain      Just the man in the blue shirt, and we didn't talk, he just let me know things

Did you experience a review of past events in your life?    No       I had been held up at gun point at the bank I worked for a few years earlier and had already had a life review at that time.

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?          No

Did you see or visit any beautiful or otherwise distinctive locations, levels or dimensions?           Yes            The three ways into heaven were beautiful.

Did you have any sense of altered space or time?   No

Did you have a sense of knowing special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?     No

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure? Yes     I was given to understand my place wasn't there yet. No, I had no idea of what would happen if I crossed the boundary, because I couldn't, it wasn't my time yet

Did you become aware of future events?       No

Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience you did not have prior to the experience?     No

Have you shared this experience with others?         Yes     I told my physician, and a nurse while I was still hospitalized. I told my husband, and my children and my psychiatrist after I was out of the hospital. I don't know if it affected anyone or not.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience?    Yes     My mother had one back in 1960, but it didn't sound anything like hers. She saw her body and I wasn't aware of mine. No, it didn't affect me.

How did you view the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened:            Experience was definitely real    The experience happened, I questioned my doctor & psychiatrist to see if they thought that it was synapses of a dying brain, they didn't, and I don't either. Something like that had never happened to me before or since. It was real because it happened.

Were there one or several parts of the experience especially meaningful or significant to you?            The sense of total peace and joy I felt. I have never felt that at all before like that. It is indescribable.

How do you currently view the reality of your experience:            Experience was definitely real    It was real, and if it had been a dream or such it wouldn't be so clear and bright like it just happened, and I'm not afraid to die, I'm ready.

Have your relationships changed specifically as a result of your experience?           No

Have your religious beliefs/practices changed specifically as a result of your experience?
Yes            I pray more.

Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?         No

Did the questions asked and information you provided so far accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?         Yes     I could probably give more details, but the questions were pretty general.

Are there any other questions we could ask to help you communicate your experience?      What physical problems remain after the NDE, and What senses had you lost prior to your NDE, Does anyone in your family think you got a miracle & why
