EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:

I was bleeding profusely, and the time went very slowly. My BP was being taken often and going down, and I thought when it hits zero I'm dead. I had to wait for blood to be matched before going in for emergency surgery.

They wheeled me out of the birth suite and to the operating theatre, and it was then I left my body and started to float. The ceiling disappeared and I was looking at myself being wheeled along on a trolley from a great height down what seemed to be an endless corridor. I felt extremely calm, and found the whole experience wonderful and life changing. I kind of plopped back into my body when the anesthetist started giving me an injection.

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words? No      

At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?          Yes     Post partum hemorrhage

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness?    When I was floating, it was magical.

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal every day consciousness and alertness?    More consciousness and alertness than normal

Did your vision differ in any way from your normal, everyday vision (in any aspect, such as clarity, field of vision, colors, brightness, depth perception degree of solidness/transparency of objects, etc.)?  Yes     Even now many years after the experience I can remember it as if it happened yesterday.

Did your hearing differ in any way from your normal, everyday hearing (in any aspect, such as clarity, ability to recognize source of sound, pitch, loudness, etc.)?
            Yes     Sound was very clear.

Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?     Yes

What emotions did you feel during the experience?            None as far as I can remember except wonder

Did you pass into or through a tunnel or enclosure?          No      

Did you see a light?           No      

Did you meet or see any other beings?           No      

Did you experience a review of past events in your life?    No      

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?          No      

Did you see or visit any beautiful or otherwise distinctive locations, levels or dimensions?           No           

Did you have any sense of altered space or time?   Yes     Time seemed to very slowly

Did you have a sense of knowing special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?     No            Although afterwards I started s spiritual search which continues

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure? No      

Did you become aware of future events?       No           

Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience you did not have prior to the experience?     Uncertain      I have accepted that there is a great unknown that I want to know more about

Have you shared this experience with others?         Yes     I told my husband straight away, and he seemed to expect and to encourage my searching.

I found my father had a very similar experience and it was a wonderful bond between us, while he was alive.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience?    No      

How did you view the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened:            Experience was definitely real    I have never doubted that it was real and would love to experience an out of body experience again

Were there one or several parts of the experience especially meaningful or significant to you?    I now accept the possibility of a soul that can survive death
