EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:

When my son was born, I lost a lot of blood, and I felt my heart stop. It's strange to describe but the closest thing I could think of to it is the sensation of not being able to breathe. I felt my heart stop and I lost consciousness, then I felt myself rise up, and I was looking at myself. I could hear the doctors and nurses calling me and I could see my husband and my new baby. My hubby was looking so helpless. The room looked slightly different, like it was hazy. I keep yelling "I am here, I am right here" but no one could hear me, finally they gave me ephedrine to get my heart going again and I felt myself plunge back into my body and take a breath, like being underwater and coming up for air.

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words? Yes

At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?          Yes

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal every day consciousness and alertness?    More consciousness and alertness than normal

If your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience was different from your normal every day consciousness and alertness, please explain:            right after I rose up out of my body, I could see and hear everything, and I felt warm

Did your vision differ in any way from your normal, everyday vision (in any aspect, such as clarity, field of vision, colors, brightness, depth perception degree of solidness/transparency of objects, etc.)?  Yes     everything looked like I was seeing it though a haze, but it made things more clear instead of less clear, the scrubs on the doctors were vibrant

Did your hearing differ in any way from your normal, everyday hearing (in any aspect, such as clarity, ability to recognize source of sound, pitch, loudness, etc.)?
