EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION
I came down with
the flu, which turned into pneumonia. We were visiting my wife's brother's
house at the time. I went to the hospital the day previous where they took an
X-ray that showed pneumonia. I forget the name of the antibiotic. I started
taking it. The next day, my coughing was very bad. I was coughing up blood and
feeling like I couldn't breathe right. I was leaning over the sink coughing up
this blood and I remember praying for help when, the next thing I knew, I saw
what could only be described as a shadowy hand in my mind. I had to make a
choice. I was told that I could continue and that we have 3 times in life to
make the choice, but that for me, my health would be worse in the future. I was
desperate and I had two small boys at the time. I remember taking the hand and
grabbing it and putting it right on my back where the pneumonia had shown on the
X-ray. Immediately I stopped coughing.
The next day, we were
coming home to Virginia and I was having what looked like an allergic reaction
to the antibiotic. We stopped at the hospital and the doctor looked at me and
said it did look like a reaction. He asked why I was prescribed it and I told
him pneumonia. He asked if I had the X-rays and I told I'm that it was done in
a hospital in Maryland. He ordered another which showed absolutely no sign of
pneumonia.
Any associated
medications or substances with the potential to affect the experience?
Uncertain Was placed on antibiotics
Was the kind of
experience difficult to express in words?
No
At the time of this
experience, was there an associated life threatening event?
Uncertain Not
really? I was suffering from pneumonia and was coughing up blood.
What was your level
of consciousness and alertness during the experience?
Not very conscious and
I feel like parts of it are submerged, I clearly remember the big hand and
putting it on my back where I believe the blood was coming from when I coughed.
Was
the experience dream like in any way?
Yes, parts of it. I
felt like I was going to die and then complete relief
Did you experience
a separation of your consciousness from your body?
No
What emotions did
you feel during the experience?
First, fear and then
gratitude.
Did you hear any
unusual sounds or noises?
No
LOCATION
DESCRIPTION:
Did you recognize any familiar locations or any locations from familiar
religious teachings or encounter any locations inhabited by incredible or
amazing creatures?
No

light?
No
Did you meet or see
any other beings?
Uncertain Just the
hand
Did you experiment
while out of the body or in another, altered state?
No
Did you observe or
hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be
verified later?
No
Did you notice how
your 5 senses were working, and if so, how were they different?
No
Did you have any sense
of altered space or time?
Yes While the
discussion of choices was occurring, I felt like that took a long time, but I
don't really remember much of it.
Did you have a
sense of knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?
No
Did you reach a
boundary or limiting physical structure?
Uncertain Not
sure, but I felt like I could choose to continue getting sick and die.

aware of future events?
No
Were you involved
in or aware of a decision regarding your return to the body?
Yes Wasn't really
outside of my body per se, but it was weird
Did you have any
psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience that you did
not have prior to the experience?
No
Did you have any
changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?
Yes I have almost
become obsessed with getting back there. I had another experience when I was
younger that I consciously had done, and now it seems as if I'm obsessed with
NDE and OBE. Mostly just reading about them. I have come to believe that
reality is much different than we believe but I am trying to prove it and am
getting frustrated by it.
How has the
experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices? Career
choices? I
now have doubts about everything. I am much more nary, but also am much quicker
to forgive than I used to be.
Has your life
changed specifically as a result of your experience?
Uncertain Not sure
if it has or not. I feel some sort of sense of purpose, but I'm angry and want
to be told what it is so I can be done with it.
Have you shared
this experience with others?
Yes Once, but they
were ok with it. No judgment.
What emotions did
you experience following your experience?
Awe.
What was the best
and worst part of your experience?
Best part was no more
coughing up blood. Worst part is that I have even more health issues than I
did.
Is there anything
else you would like to add concerning the experience?
It was my second
experience with something weird. I will make a separate post regarding that.
