EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:

I was a healthy child, I slept normally, but at a certain time during the night I `woke up' and found myself floating about two feet from the ceiling, I felt as though I was on my back and in this position gently floated out of the bedroom, along the landing, down the stairs, along the hallway, and into the dining room at the back of the house. In the dining room apparently superimposed on the curtained off French windows was a disc of golden light, although bright it was not dazzling. It was about four or five feet in diameter, and I was gently, slowly, moving towards it. At a certain time I realized that the light was drawing me to it, and that I had no control over it. I grew apprehensive, then frightened, and still I was being drawn towards the light. I then became panic stricken, and then woke up in my bed, still scared stiff.                                        

During this experience I was wide awake and fully alert although I was out of my body. It was not a dream, if it had been I would by now have forgotten it. It is still clearly etched in my memory.                                                        

A young lady to whom I related this event said something that I had never considered before she said ` You know, that night you nearly died' . I think she meant that had I been drawn into the light, and been absorbed by it, that I would have died , that I would have been fully enlightened and would have had no need to have retuned to the physical world. After much consideration during my life I have come to the conclusion that this was NEARLY a death event.

At the time of your experience was there an associated life-threatening event?   Uncertain  I was put to bed healthy youngster, I was not suffering from an illness or debilitating physical condition.

Was the experience difficult to express in words?  No     I have just described it.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness?    Throughout the whole experience.

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness?      Normal consciousness and alertness

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience.   There was no sound during the experience.

Did you see or hear any earthly events that were occurring during a time that your consciousness / awareness was apart from your physical / earthly body?   No  

What emotions did you feel during the experience?   Puzzlement, and then later during the experience- extreme fear.  

Did you pass into or through a tunnel?   No  

Did you see an unearthly light?   Yes   See description of the event.

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice?   No

Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)?   No  

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings?   No  

Did you become aware of past events in your life during your experience?   No  

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world?   No

Did time seem to speed up or slow down?   No

Did you suddenly seem to understand everything?   No

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?   No

Did you come to a border or point of no return?   I came to a definite conscious decision to "return" to life
The golden light, which, incidentally did not illuminate the room, I believe was the point of no return, had I passed into it I would not have returned to the physical world.

Did scenes from the future come to you?  No 

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness suggesting that there either is (or is not) continued existence after earthly life (“life after death”)?   Yes   The very fact that I separated from my body indicated to me that the `real me' was not my body.

What occurred during your experience included:   Content that was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience   I was too young at the time of the experience to have formed opinions based on beliefs.

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience?   I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience   The experience was more vivid than other life events.

Discuss any changes that might have occurred in your life after your experience:   Psychic sensitivity seems to be enhanced to a greater degree than is experienced by the general population.

My experience directly resulted in:   Large changes in my life

Did you have any changes in your values or beliefs after the experience that occurred as a result of the experience?   Yes   Over the years of my life I have noticed greater psychic sensitivity, seeing spirits of the living and the newly dead at certain times. Such as people I have known in life shortly after their demise.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you?   Yes, the golden light.

Have your religious beliefs/spiritual practices changed specifically as a result of your experience?   Yes   I read books about the occult, spiritual matters, and religion.

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience?   No  

Is there anything else that you would like to add about your experience?   The awareness that separated from my body during the experience is the real me, not my body.
