EXPERIENCE:
I noticed my body separating from me, as I was drawn towards a strong white
light at the other end of a tunnel which itself was completely dark. As this
happened I could hear and faintly perceive those who were in my vicinity. Due to
gaps in my memory, I cannot recall in detail what happened, but only isolated
facts, such as being welcomed by someone who was a member of my family, though I
cannot be specific as to who it was, all I can remember is a part of the message
he (or she) gave me. This being was surrounded by light and by other people, but
I could not see them well, they were like silhouettes, or shadows... I was told
that I should not be there, that it was still not my time, that I had to go back
to those I had left on earth and solve the problems of my present and future
life. I was also warned about what could happen if I committed the same act at
some future time, along the lines of: "Death could stay with you without
offering the chance to come back", and that I needed to cure the evil which I
had in my body (referring to the overdose). This was actually a warning made out
of love. I could feel how the person addressing me was protecting and
counselling me just like a mother scolding her child. I did not want to come
back, and neither can I recall the moment when I regained consciousness, I just
woke up next day and repeated to myself what I had been told, so as not to
forget. I don't remember much else.
Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words?
Yes
At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?
Yes, an overdose.
At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of
consciousness and alertness?
Just before I could approach the light.
How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience
compare to your normal every day consciousness and alertness?
Less consciousness and alertness than normal. Just before I could approach the
light.
Did your vision differ in any way from your normal, everyday vision (in any
aspect, such as clarity, field of vision, colors, brightness, depth perception
degree of solidness/transparency of objects, etc.)?
Uncertain. I could just see myself surrounded with light and silhouettes, which
were facing towards me.
Did your hearing differ in any way from your normal, everyday hearing (in any
aspect, such as clarity, ability to recognize source of sound, pitch, loudness,
etc.)?
Uncertain. I recall a variety of sounds passing between my unconscious mind and
those who surrounded me, but I cannot recall being able to make out anything but
the words of a distracted friend, a girl, saying that I should come back to
them.
Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?
Yes
What emotions did you feel during the experience?
Wellbeing, some fear, confusion. I repeat, I did not want to return, it was as
if I were being forced to.
Did you pass into or through a tunnel or enclosure?
Yes, it was a very dark tunnel.
Did you see a light?
Yes, a bright light at the other end of the tunnel.
Did you meet or see any other beings?
Yes, it was as if they came out of the light, waiting for my arrival, then
communicated to me that I should not be with them, that I had to go back and
'extract the evil from my body', as well as confronting the life ahead of me. I
should not place my life in danger, as 'death might get confused, and stay with
me'. Also they spoke of my heightened sensitivity, which allowed me greater
contact or perception of their messages. They spoke about a person in my life
with whom I had established a connexion of minds and that I should not attempt
to make it a physical relationship, as we were already connected 'mentally' and
that would last forever.
Did you experience a review of past events in your life?
No
Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your
experience that could be verified later?
No
Did you see or visit any beautiful or otherwise distinctive locations, levels or
dimensions?
No
Did you have any sense of altered space or time?
Yes, I don't know how long it lasted, but the subsequent confusion was extreme.
Did you have a sense of knowing special knowledge, universal order and/or
purpose?
Yes. Simply my love of life and of those around me. I was warned not to play
games with it. They knew I had a fixation with death but I had a lot to come in
my life, which I must come back to live and enjoy. I take it as a message of
love towards me and those around me.
Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?
No
Did you become aware of future events?
No
Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the
experience you did not have prior to the experience?
No
Have you shared this experience with others?
Yes. The next day I spoke with some friends, they were impressed and amazed, as
is normal.
Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your
experience?
Yes. I had read a number of different experiences and I have had another similar
one, but on a smaller scale, where I just recall seeing the tunnel with the
light at the end, but without going through it nor contacting anyone at the
other end.
How did you view the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it
happened?
Experience was definitely real
Were there one or several parts of the experience especially meaningful or
significant to you?
The fact that they told me I should not be with them and not to do it again...
it was as if whoever was speaking to me was warning me that next time they would
not be able to intervene for me.
How do you currently view the reality of your experience? Experience was definitely real. It really made me appreciate my existence here more, I truly believe we are here for some reason and I want to know what that is.
Have your relationships changed specifically as a result of your experience?
No
Have your religious beliefs/practices changed specifically as a result of your
experience?
No
Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life,
medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?
Uncertain. Not near death, but I have had experiences during sleep, as if my
body was conscious while I slept, and wanted to wake up, without being able to.
When I do awake, I feel more tired.
Is there anything else you would like to add concerning the experience?
No.
Did the questions asked and information you provided so far accurately and
comprehensively describe your experience?
Yes. You have helped me in the attempt to recall and give structure to the
experience, though I repeat, I do not remember well just what happened and what
I have said is the most relevant part, and all that I recall with exactness.
