Experience Description

I had passed out at home and died on the way to the hospital. I was resuscitated. Then taken to the emergency room, where I had died a second time. My body started shutting down. My soon-to-be-ex-wife was asked who she would like to perform the funeral. I was in a coma for five days before waking up and realizing where I was.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes While under general anesthesia. CPR given. Other: organs shutting down after having double pneumonia

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

The experience included: Out of body experience

Did you feel separated from your body? No I lost awareness of my body

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? Less consciousness and alertness than normal

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? I was unconscious the entire time.

Were your thoughts speeded up? No

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? No

Were your senses more vivid than usual? No

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. I had no vision (physically) during the experience.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. I responded to a special friend of mine while I was in the coma. I did not physically hear anything.

The experience included: Tunnel

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? Yes I was taken into a long tunnel, but the closer I got to a light, the farther it seemed to be away from me.

Did you see any beings in your experience? I sensed their presence

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? No

The experience included: Unearthly light

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? An unusually bright light

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes A bright light. As bright as the sun.

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? No

What emotions did you feel during the experience? None.

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Relief or calmness

Did you have a feeling of joy? Happiness

Did you feel a sense of harmony or unity with the universe? I felt no longer in conflict with nature

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes I realized that I could not stay in the relationship or the situation that I was in. Wholesale changes had to be made.

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes I have no fear for the future, and I can share that with others.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? Being peaceful and calm as I went toward the light. I was not afraid, and wanted to continue. Something or someone wanted me back here instead.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes One month. They were glad that I was still alive, and back to work. A few of them are taking better care of themselves.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real To this day, I still feel like I am being guided forward. It is like the steps on my path are being guided.
