My husband and I were coming home from picking up some propane tanks that we put in the trunk. We use propane to heat a greenhouse. As we were waiting for the stoplight to turn green, I shifted my body sideways to talk to my husband. Then there was a massive impact where everything happened in slow motion. I remember tumbling in my seat and hitting my head. This was my second motor vehicle that left me with a massive concussion. As the bus bumper reached the windshield, I screamed, 'We are going to die!' and started to leave my body. I heard a woman's voice say, 'You will not die'. I thought it was either my deceased mother or mother-in-law. As I went back into my body, I knew the voice I heard was the Virgin Mary. I call her Mother Mary.

This is the second time in my life that I heard and knew that this was her voice. As a small child, I heard her voice and felt her presence. By the Grace of God, the propane did not explode. Life has not been the same since. I could not communicate to anyone what happened, no words could describe that a miracle had happened. I am not the same person today as I was in that car almost four years ago.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes Accident Direct head injury. Life threatening event, but not clinical death We were in our small Toyota Camry with my husband driving. We were stopped six feet back, behind a tall, senior transit bus and waiting to turn left. We were rear-ended at 35 miles an hour. My husband's foot came off the brake, and we were pushed under the bus, inches away from being decapitated by the bus's bumper. Then he got his foot back on the brake.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

The experience included: Out of body experience

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes I heard a spiritual voice, very real. Second time in my life. I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal Had spiritual contact, reassurance that I was not going to die.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? When I was almost out of my body and listening to the voice of Mother Mary. Consciousness in another realm.

Were your thoughts speeded up? No

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Time seemed to go faster or slower than usual Slow motion, entering another realm.

Were your senses more vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. The vision that happened during the accident opened up a spiritual portal that has changed my life for the better. To make a very long story short, I was blessed with spiritual gifts of empathy. Compassion and psychic intuition. Never put it all together until the accident. Hope this makes sense.

What was your religion prior to your experience? Christian- Protestant Highly spiritual from earliest memories. Deep abiding spiritual faith. Combined with Buddist framework over the years.

What is your religion now? Other or several faiths At time of event, active with church attendance. Slowly dropped out of formal religion as a hightened spiritual world opened up.

Content that was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience My spirituality is a very private matter that I had shared with only a few. During this experience, I knew in my soul that I had been truly blessed since birth

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes I have connected with a more empathic part of my soul. I can sense and know what is going on with people, animals, and plants. I just know. It brings joy and happiness to give love, compassion and empathy.

During your experience, did you gain information about universal connection or oneness? Yes The 'voice' from the higher realm, brought home the truth to me that there is indeed a greater awareness outside our consciousness.

During your experience, did you gain information about the existence of God? Yes Highly spiritual since childhood. Felt protected but could not communicate. The voice I heard confirmed that we are all part of a greater realm.

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? Yes My marriage has suffered. Husband is not the same man I married. So difficult, I am trying to be patient, kind and compassionate. However, this is about Sherry and how to take care of her first.

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Yes How do you communicate what happened to the doctors, medical personnel. I’ve been processing this event for four years. Finally, I read several books about NDE and I am a textbook case.

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience as accurately as other life events that occurred around the time of the ex The experience remains crystal clear. I think about it daily, gives me strength.,

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes Always had the sense that I had psychic gifts. Not until the event, did I realize the depth of the gifts that have been bestowed. Changed my life. Still confusing and trying to understand. Definitely need some type of guidance.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? Hearing the voice of the spirit I call Mother Mary, has confirmed a lifetime of beliefs. This experience opened up a realm that I was unable to reach, did not have the focus.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes A handful of people since the accident. It’s so difficult to communicate. Those that were told were unable to relate. Recently told some of my experience, he told me about his NDE, gave me suggestions on NDE to read. Almost four years after the event.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? No

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real As said many times, I have a deep spiritual core. It’s the second time in my life that I was blessed with the validation that indeed, a spiritual realm exists.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real My life has been forever changed for the better. Have learned to learn from the past, stay in the here and now and let the future unfold as it was meant to be. Learning great patience.

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience? Yes More spiritual contacts. Yet another story.

Is there anything else that you would like to add about your experience? I am waiting patiently, since I know that there are positive life events in store for me that will change my life. They have already started to happen.
