Experience Description

I had my experience in the hospital at some point during a three-day coma. I had been very sick for quite a while, but I have lost most of my memory about that illness. That particular time I had gone to the hospital because I was having a very long grand-mal seizure during the night. It had started at about 3:00 AM, and after about ten minutes, my husband and daughter realized that it was serious, and not just a reaction to a dream I was having. So, they called an ambulance. I have no memory of any of this. All I know is that the doctors told them to prepare for the worst and that if I did make it, I wouldn't be able to function.

Sometime during this three-day coma, I think it was towards the end, I found myself standing with my back to my hospital bed. I could see myself still lying in the bed, though. Looking straight ahead, I saw my mother standing facing me. I started crying. About twenty years ago, she had passed from a massive stroke. It had been such a long time since I had seen her, and I told her I wanted to be with her.

She told me, 'No.' I kept crying and saying I wanted to go with her and she kept saying, 'No. Not now.' When she had passed, she had been very deformed from severe rheumatoid arthritis that she had had for over thirty-five years. But when I saw her standing in front of me, she looked beautiful. I had never seen her without pain or physical deformity. She looked so good, but not as I remembered her. I knew there was something wonderful waiting ahead. No matter what I said, she wouldn't take me with her. She said I had to stay. I didn't want to. The next thing I can remember was being in a bed, my husband and kids were standing around me. All I could think was that I didn't want to be there. I don't remember much else about the next few weeks.
