Experience Description

I was unconscious, and they were trying to revive me. I didn't feel or hear anything.

Then I was sitting next to my recently deceased son. It was really bright. I had a feeling of instant pain, then nothing. I saw my life, and I questioned my existence here and wondered about my daughter too. My son asked me in a calm voice, (he seemed to be really at peace, too.) 'What are you going to do? Are you going to come with me, or not?'

I went with him and found myself sitting in a church with him. My head was bowed, and he was praying with me. (Note: In life, my son had not been a very religious man.) Then I woke up in an ambulance and he was still there with me. I fell back into unconsciousness and the next thing I knew, I woke up in the hospital. I don't remember any paramedics or other medical people. I do remember my father wetting me with water and slapping me. I don't remember anything else at all.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Mixed

The experience included: Out of body experience

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal Somewhat.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? Somewhat.

Were your thoughts speeded up? Incredibly fast

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning But I can't describe it.

Were your senses more vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. Blurry, then clear.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. Same answer as above, but all I heard was a conversation I had with my deceased uncle. I don't remember hearing anything else.

Did you see any beings in your experience? I actually saw them

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? Yes Deceased son. I could feel and hear other family members.

The experience included: Light

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? A light clearly of mystical or other-worldly origin

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes But my uncle would not let me go there yet.

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? A clearly mystical or unearthly realm a light i could not go yet

What emotions did you feel during the experience? First I felt worry, then peace.

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Incredible peace or pleasantness

Did you have a feeling of joy? Happiness

Did you feel a sense of harmony or unity with the universe? I felt united or one with the world

Did scenes from your past come back to you? My past flashed before me, out of my control I'm still trying to cope and make some sense of it all.

Did scenes from the future come to you? Scenes from the world's future I don't know yet.

Did you come to a border or point of no return? I came to a barrier that I was not permitted to cross; or was sent back against my will

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? I encountered a definite being, or a voice clearly of mystical or unearthly origin

Did you see deceased or religious spirits? I actually saw them

During your experience, did you gain special knowledge or information about your purpose? Yes Somewhat. I need help with trying to figure it out.

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? Uncertain I am still looking for answers.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real From the first, I saw the experience as definitely real. But I think it's too early to know for sure. I need help with understanding it.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real Now I see the experience as definitely real. I know it was real. I felt it all.

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience? No

Is there anything else that you would like to add about your experience? I know the difference between fact and fiction. I have no record of mental health problems and I've never had any delusions. What I experienced was all too real.
