Experience Description

Well, let me say first off that I had a partial out-of-body experience two years ago. I never told anyone about it until I found out about near death experiences and that have some similarities with mine. I was in the military at the time, and I was attending school for college credits along with many other service members. We were at a school in New Mexico, and there isn't much to do out there. We were often bored and did anything to pass the time. That is until my friend told us about the ‘Chinese-shotgun,’ also known as the ‘passing out’ game. Some people do it for a head buzz.

So, some friends and I decided to try it out. The game is that you hold your breath fifteen to twenty seconds, and then you slowly let out your breath as a friend pushes down hard on my sternum and you’re supposed to get a head rush. I heard stories of people dying from this and was hesitant at first to try it. It was my turn and I began to hold my breath for fifteen seconds. The last human thought I had was my buddy pressing on my chest. That is when my experience happened.

I remember myself becoming very weak very quickly. I lost control over my body and I began falling forward before my friends caught me. As I was falling forward, everything seemed so real and defined. I could hear everyone snickering jokingly and could see them too. I can say with confidence that my senses were heightened. Now, this all happened within a couple of seconds, but I was not paying any attention to ‘time’. This part of the experience is quite vague, but there was a Bob Marley song playing in the background and I remember being able to see, hear, and feel the music. It was an incredible feeling.

The next moment I remember my vision tunneling and then I began to see purple space and stars. If you go to Google images and type in ‘purple nebula,’ it is strikingly similar to what I saw. I don't know what to call it, but seeing and experiencing this ‘galaxy’-type feeling was a very incredible thing. I felt calm, relaxed, and soothed. I then remember my friends shaking me to, I guess, wake me up. My head hurt when I awoke, and I remember everything being groggy. I was also disappointed that the experience ended. Yet, at the same time, I am thankful that I didn't die. This experience may seem different than other out of body experiences, but I am describing it in as much detail as I recall.
