Experience Description

I went to a clinic that was paying for 'healthy' (non-smoking, etc.) blood to give to cancer patients. The nurse could not find my vein after digging for what seemed like a very long time. Apparently I went into shock and convulsed instead of passing out. They kept me standing up rather than putting me in a prone position. I looked down from what seemed like a height of possibly 20 or so feet and saw the nurses holding me upright. I 'came back' shaking my head saying, 'No'.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes Other Medical staff was not trained in handling situation The attendants were unable to put me on the floor with my feet up so I could get blood to my head.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Both pleasant AND distressing

The experience included: Out of body experience

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes Looking down and seeing my body being held upright. I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? Normal consciousness and alertness

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? I looked down from what seemed like a height of possibly 20 or so feet and saw the nurses holding me upright. I 'came back' shaking my head saying, 'No.'

Were your thoughts speeded up? No

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Time seemed to go faster or slower than usual It all flashed by.

The experience included: Unearthly light

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? An unusually bright light

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes Bright yellow.

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? No

What emotions did you feel during the experience? Looking back I would say that I had a choice and I said, 'No,' which meant I wanted to come back to earth and my life.

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Relief or calmness

Did you feel a sense of harmony or unity with the universe? I felt no longer in conflict with nature

Did you suddenly seem to understand everything? Everything about myself or others I can only say that it was not a bad experience and seemed normal at the time

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience I never gave any thought to near death experiences until this episode

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Uncertain I am still pondering the event and enjoy discussing similar situations with others.

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Uncertain At first yes, now no.

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience as accurately as other life events that occurred around the time of the experience Other than that I was observing it from a distance it was about the same

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes Not too long after this episode I did hear a voice telling me that 'someone near you isn't well' and I was able to locate that person and catch her as she fell. I found out later that she had a brain tumor and I kept her from injuring herself as she passed out.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? I know that what happened to me made the individuals who participated in the event more aware of how to handle the situation. I was healthy enough to survive but someone else might not have been. This is fact because a woman who worked there relayed this information to a mutual friend.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes I shared it immediately with close friends. One of them diagnosed it as an Out of Body experience.

Is there anything else that you would like to add about your experience? Because I had no prior knowledge of such things I believe it did happen.
