Experience Description

I was under anesthesia during the birth of my second child. All of a sudden, I found myself hovering at ceiling level and viewing the scene under me but I really wasn't very much interested in what was happening down there! I remember mentally nudging myself to 'pay attention to what's going on' but then I found myself floating in a nebula of extreme beauty. I was immersed in the depths of the sky, or 'heaven' and I felt a 'presence' but did not try to see it.

Immediately I understood the whole universe—and for me, understanding all those scientific things, (never having been good at math and science in school) it was like a rejuvenating fountain! Furthermore, I had gone through much suffering during my youth—and now I was able to understand why.

And then, quite simply, I woke up in the post-operative recovery room. I was completely certain of everything and wanted to tell my doctor all about it as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, he advised me to forget it, if I did not want to wind up in the madhouse [mental hospital].

So after that, I kept it a secret. Right now I can't find words strong enough to explain how much this experience changed me, but I can state strongly that I have never had any doubts that I lived through every second of it.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? The fact that for me the veil suddenly lifted.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes Until I read the works of the Dr. Raymond Moody, I never felt the desire to be believed, so people's reactions did not affect me. To understand why they were not able to believe me, I just had to put myself in their place.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real It was liberating, because it allowed me to make peace with my past.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real I can hardly wait to go back. I am sixty now and I never worried about instructing myself. I feel like I have my bags packed and I am waiting.
