Experience Description

I immediately became aware that the end-stage of my labor was giving complications, however I was very relaxed and confident. When I separated from my body, I had a feeling of floating. I had a feeling of total blessedness, a very intense wellbeing. I was floating in surroundings, which were very luminous and soft, rising up towards a more intense luminosity. Then nothing more, I came round much later in the intensive care unit. The doctors brought me back after defibrillation and the transfusion of several units of blood.

Were your thoughts speeded up? Incredibly fast

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning No more notion of time.

Were your senses more vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? Yes I appreciate life much more and keep the ups-and-downs of daily life in proportion. I give a lot of importance to human relationships.

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Yes The feelings are.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes Several years later, and not with my intimates but with patients who are dying, I think that it helped them.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? Yes I had just heard about them in the media.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real I think it was real for me in the light of what I felt.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real I think this is what happens when the spirit leaves the body.

Is there anything else that you would like to add about your experience? I was not afraid of death before this, it was not a taboo subject, even less so now. I know it is difficult for those who remain behind, not for the one passing over.
